Side panel badges

Off topic but "I remember many years ago when my brother fitted a reed valve to his Yamaha RT360". My RT2 360 had reed valves standard.

The early model RT1? was piston port. No reed valve. Might have been the reed valve on the later model that uninspired him to do it.

I also think Silicone is the way to go. Just machined one out with a dremel where the back of the stalk had been flattened like a rivet. Pain in the arse.

Don't understand why you would use Araldite when a small blob of silicone will stick it on really well and be easy to remove - no heat required?

I removed the brass wire connector inserts from this connector strip  and used them  to screw onto the badge pins, makes it removable too. No need for tape or glue this way.
Very secure.

I've done something similar with my side cover badges.
Used 1mm stainless countersunk screws and tiny nuts to secure the badges.
Looks OK, in my opinion.

Now to highjack this thread, have any of you devised the perfect (i.e. invisible) way to keep the side covers from flying away? So the screw through the front tab doesn't count. Used to be just a nuisance when new covers and badges where easily available but is a major PITA now.

Replacing the retainer grommets before they fall apart worked for me. I suppose a discrete hole on the edge of the cover or bracket glued on the inside could provide an anchor for a lanyard to keep it from flying away if it comes loose would work. I made a lanyard for the left sidecover on my '07 Multistrada, they are famous for flying!

I used two loops of very  thin cable (bicycle gear change cable) and glued an attachment point on the inside of each cover. They run over a central post in the tool box space, easily removable. Additionally, new grommets.
Now they dont fly off but if they do the cables will keep them from leaving the bike. Also provide a little insurance from the casual thief.

If you drill a tiny hole in the front inside edge by the Crank case breather same on the other side and put a small zip tie in both and i between a spring it don't stop them flying off but saves that horrible screw.
And it does work and you can't see it
Regards Andy 😁

You can drill out the grommet in situ Cam, just to make it a tiny bit easier, dont want to crack your sidecover by being too tight.
Im sure you already know that :)
