Small Valve shims

Does anyone know if anyone has smaller shims then the green book says
smaller then 1.85
i need .067
do i sand them down?
1975 3C

No, you recondition the head... :o

Going smaller than the stock sizes is just keeping X-day at bay for a little while.  Flow at the valve suffers, seats are probably knackered and piss like a sieve, guides will most probably have had it too.

A reconditioned head with new valves and correctly cut new seat inserts will also restore compression to what it is supposed to be, won't recognise the engine again!

If you really must, the shims can be ground, but be sure they stay parallel.  BTW, it's a royal pita to do it on a sheet of emery by hand! :D

yes I need a .067" shim
my right side exhaust valve is at .007 indicated cams installed cold
Shim is .070
Desired is .010
so I need .067 yes

I have used shims less than that, as low as 50 thou, not to be recomended, I have also surface ground the valve tappetts (buckets) down a bit as well, I dont recomend that either, but when you get your 67 thou shim and install it, I will bet that the clearance is still wrong, so go for a 65.Rememmebgr though, that something is going awry, and a repair is not far off.

I know everyone is saying that your engine is going to need headwork soon but it might cheer you up to know that I had a tight vave clearance on my first 3C at about 30000 miles so I had a shim ground down to suit.
The engine ran well for another 60.000 miles without any further closing up on that valve. This was a 74 bike and it hardly ever needed the valves shimming but I suppose we had leaded petrol back then to thank for that.

Sounds like a mighty thin shim that.  Didn't Red have some cam bearings made that had a bit more height on them?  Might be a better way to go if you don't want to lift the head.
