Snapped Rod

I have a mate who chiselled out a hole in the concrete floor of his rather luxurious man cave, dropped in a buggered conrod out of his Guzzi, then poured clear epoxy in to fill up the hole. It's ground off flush with the floor and polished so it's like a little window, with the rod in clear view. It makes a nice little piece of art and an interesting conversation starter.

At OCT we had a nice collection of "Offerings to the God of Speed" ala Burt Munroe. Quite a few picturesque examples of little inconveniences, ranging from snapped and bent conrods to primary sprockets that had but hints of teeth remaining.

A deceased very clever friend of mine a few years ago was doing major changes to a scrap Honda 400/4 to get it up to about 650, or some such, he used Guzzi pistons and the (Honda) rods were about 3- 4mm too short for his needs, so he made a jig, cut them and re-welded them at the correct measurement, he did about ten rods and reverse bent about 3 of them, none cracked or broke, so the build went ahead, it ran like a clock and reved like a chainsaw, I was always reluctant to realy give it the beans though, but he wasnt!

I would like to see some photos? We have a wall of shame in the machine shop but not Laverda related. Smooth sprockets and bearing worn through more than half the shaft etc.
