What a cracker of a race week, wall-to-wall sunshine, an outright course record lap, record race speeds, two wins for local rising star, Joe Yeardsley and no particularly serious injuries; although another local lad, perhaps trying too hard to soon, banged himself about a bit in a crash at Church bends. As first time visitor, and former Jota racer Martin Sentance said, ‘Mass starts, a road course and fantastic weather - what’s not to like?’
As generally predicted, as it’s pretty difficult course to pass on unless you have a much faster bike than the bike you’re trying to pass, most of the overtakes are attempted into the hard breaking points, such as Ballabeg hairpin. Unfortunately, ‘incidents’ aren’t uncommon, but at slower speeds so it’s normally a case of a damaged bike and pride. Thursday morning was untypical with one spectacular blow-up on the approach to the corner and two collisions as a result of over ambitious lunges up the inside. On both occasions the ‘lunger’ came off worst.
Roll on August and the MGP/Classic TT.
