Interesting chain kit offered for sale on ebay now (item #371322967030)
Surprising on an endurance racer it was the subject of a few articles when it made first appearance.
Think it was for the 1975 Le Mans Bol d'Or.

Spaceframe experts will certainly enlighten us more about it.

Bearing in mind that a lot of owners have come down from the 630 chain size to a 530 to supposedly improve gear changing and reduce weight quite what that lot bashing around will do for the bike seems questionable unless of course "It's the thing to have on".

The Spaceframe kits were delivered with the gearing options of a 49 tootgh rear sprocket together with 22, 23 , and 24 tooth front sprockets. This is for use with the 428(ish) duplex chain from Regina which comes in the kit. While these chains are hard to come by the bikes which actually get used have mostly been converted to a 530 or 520 single row set-up. The duplex 428 version is definitely lighter than the 630 stuff of that era, how it compares to the 530 I couldn't say. The duplex is nice for display purposes and simply belongs to the bike  but for regular riders the 530 is simply more practical.

the 1982 Benelii 900 Sei had a similar dual chain setup. One of the first things I removed when I first got that bike all those years ago....... Interesting to look at, functionally a sinlge row chain worked so much better.

very cool thing to see listed though, and the price even seems reasonable if you happened to have a spaceframe.......

Yes, first thing I did when I got my Benelli 900 Sei was replace the duplex chain with a 530.
The duplex chain and sprockets were in good condition so I've kept them in case some future owner wants to put it back to original spec.
Duplex chain looks cool though  :)

I guess they went the way of The Dodo when O ring chains arrived. Pre O ring and I was always fing about either adjusting cleaning or oiling chains. I wonder how much fing about was required with these duplex chains

Those old duplex are a non O-ring type of chain so require the same farting about with lube as any non-o-ring chain. I used to wash them with diesel then boil the bloody things in Duckhams chain grease. Who remembers that horrible smelly muck?
You were lucky if the Duckhams business was completed without without incident. I've witnessed a couple of heroic failures with that stuff  :D

Duckhams chain grease was indirectly responsible for my ex business partner's divorce...
His wife arrived home to see the fire brigade leaving and black stalactites all over the kitchen ceiling. He'd done a nice job of redecorating in basic black...
I understand it was the last straw. Having put up with him for two years myself, she has my admiration for having lasted a lot longer.

There were 2 types of chain used 08B-2 1/2" duplex BS and asa40-2 american standard duplex.

Difference was in was in roller dia.

There were also some with a narrow 1/2" duplex special chain.

I have done conversion kits with the iwis 08B-2 for a couple of guys.

Technically not good as it has a long narrow pin and the centre plates are
a slide fit allowing the pin to flex........hence it was not used on many machines.

It is also very heavy 1.35 kg/mt against o.96 for iwis 530. The sprockets would also
be heavier.
