Speed at revs

there is much more to getting away with exceeding the speed limits than just having an accurate instrument to tell you what speed you are doing, if you use your eyes, your ears and your common sense, then you can enjoy the ride much more, and "get away" with what can be illegal speeds, much more.

If you do get booked, beside the road, then there is still a lot you can do to "escape" with it by your attitude and demenour.

If you get flashed by a radar, then you have no escape, except for one that I detected (it worked) and I have tested it, but I am not telling you here what it is, except to say that you do have to hold a special purpose license, (truck, coach) which gets renewed every five years up to 65 and then every year therafter, and of curse this is the UK

you mean legal, right?  ;)

Me illegal - never. Trust me, I'm a doctor (but I wasn't then)

Actually, have had the LeMon over 220, but with the vauglia that probably was only 110 (highest speed limit where I come from)

I once had my jota up to an indicated 210 but there was a bend coming up and I didn't have enough cojones to keep the throttle open. It had worn-out Michelin Macadams at the time and the handling was a bit more wonky than it usually is.

I use to regularly see 240 on my Vauglia at about 8k, what the actual speed was I have no idea but these days it's too fast for my brain to compute the speed of things going by :o
Anything over 200 clicks and life becomes a blur :D
I reckon with the current state of tune, the weight loss [pretty sure under 200kgs] and the slippery design of my bodywork the Motodd should be good for 150mph just like the original jotas :D.

Hey Rob with them there fancy HIV :o :o lights nothing should be a blurrr even at 200 klicks, Cheers Dave.

Hey Dave, could be more than a blur if they work the same as Romeo's chinese HIV lights :o I can assure you I won't be doing 200 klicks at night not around my neck of the woods for obvious reasons :D

No matter which triple you take, if the gearing is close to standard and they do not rev beyond 8.000 in last gear, the limit is 225km/h max. Even the 1000 SFC/RGS Corsa does not go faster than that, even though the Veglia makes you believe you are going 270 or more... Trust me, I have calculated that several time, have done the several different setups etc. etc. - no chance on a flat road to go faster with standard gears (16/34 or 19/40 on the secondary transmission). I even tried 19/42 and 19/38. With the 19/42 it reved a bit higher but ended up at 215 or so. with the 19/38, it was impossible to reach the 8.000 revs. And that is with an engine that puts out 105HP.

Maybe someone lighter and with better aerodynamics than me can go higher, but if you calculate it through, no matter which tire etc., on a standard transmission setting and 8.000revs, 225 is the limit. Consider 3-5% rear wheel spin at that speed btw...

Well that is interesting. I've gotta find the old Two Wheels magazine that procalimed the first (production) bike they ever tested to do a true (measured) 240kmh (150mph) No doubt done on some old airstrip, but none the less.....
(And I hate to upset the romantics it was a late Jota ;) but can't remember exactly when - no doubt a Series 2 :D
(but of course Alziemers has set in and what do I remember)  :D

Edit - Apologies Lothar (I've just come back from a session at the neighbours place) I realise your comment was based on max revs @ 8000 and was in context of overall discussion - I was just....... trying to be irrelevant ;)

Top speed tests on early Jotas were aided by a large selection of sprocket sizes. Not standard gearing, and just maybe not standard engines.  :o :o :o

G'day Ian go for a ride on the weekend? The only thing I rode was the mower, not really suited to create fire brakes, was out in the paddock at 6 am while there was moisture in the grass. Spent the rest of the day putting out fires near Gawler started by somebody's bloody ride-on ::)

I don't have a jota, but my Redax laverda bounces off the rev limiter in top at 8200 and would happily spin up to 9600 I'd say, haven't been there in top cause someone turned it down on me , that's fast enough without a fairing I say

4000rpm is 120 ish on the jota, problem with the 3c is the speedo works fine up to 60mph, but doesnt go any further.  4000rpm is roughly 70mph, so just try and keep up vince!

Hello Terry,  I guess the week end has gone, sorry about that, the Xmas rush has caught up.
Work really does get in the way of a good time, but as they say....no mon no fun.
I have the Xmas break off work, don't go back till the 6th Jan, unfortunately the other half is working,
so sad. I am open to suggestions.
There was a CFS bloke got bit by a snake at the Gawler fires, [suspected] not from your crew?

My 3C is about 70mph indicated at 4000 ish...      80mph seems to be around 5000 - but that's when the tach really starts waving..
