Speedo reading fast

Hi all I’m new to this group, I have a 1200 Mirage 1978 problem with nd speedo reading 10-15mph to fast does anyone as any suggestions. Both speedo and tachometer are new and on the bike when I purchased, the speedo drive has 25/9 which I think is correct.

Speedo new? OE Laverda? Honda/Kawasaki items are almost identical but have different internals, Lavs use a quite unique ratio for their speedos. 10-15mph is a lot...

ND speedos are usually quite accurate, I rarely find much more than +/-5km/h deviation, depending on front tyre size. Easy to calculate against revs/gears. 25/9 drive is correct.

That the speedo is much faster than the bike for a 1000 SFC it is normal. At 5000 rpm it shows 170 k where the RGS shows 140. I don’t care, I know both are doin about 28k/ 1000 rpm, so at 10000 they (would) go 280 k. 😀

SFC1000 are fitted with Veglia speedos, notorious for reading fast... possibly the cheapest deal Massimo recieved when shopping for Smiths replacements.

A quick fix while you are sorting it out is to fit a bicycle electronic speedo. Don't know about the UK but here in Aus the margin for speedo error is critical, the cops will do you for only a couple of kays over the limit.

you're safe as a safe thing if you ride to the SFC Vaguelias then. When I first bought my SFC I also had a VFR750 and was intrigued that the other traffic on the motorway cruised at 85mph on the days I rode my SFC but at 70mph on Honda days :)

A few years later I was riding the SFC into one of the borders villages which had one of those natty signs that detected your speed - I could see a jam sandwich (cop car) up ahead so I carefully rode at an indicated 40 in the 40 limit. The basted sign flashed a smiley ace at me then told me I was doing 28mph....

so Massimo made the SFC speedo camaras safe?👏😄I know, when I am going with 5000 rpm which is a good touring mode for the bike on fast regional roads it is just 140 k and not 170 k whats the speedo says but reasonable fast😉

Calibrated my SFC speedo with a bycyle GPS and have a piece of duct tape stuck inside the fairing with the comparative values on it. Reads 10kmh high at 70kmh and 25khm high at 110kmh. Oddly, distance is pretty close to reality. Had the same issue on the Caterham - until repalaced with a GPS speedo (no good in tunnels though......!)

One of the advantages of fitting one of those pushy thingos is, dependant on model, it'll give you the time, an odometer, a trip meter, average speed and highest speed attained (which could lead to trouble if checked by the plod). Even had one that gave the temperature.

My VFR800 has electronic speedo run off the countershaft. Standard it reads 10% optimistic, so an indicated 180kmh is only just over 160, a huge difference. It also had incredible fuel economy. I fitted a Yellow Box speedo re-calibrater and adjusted it to read exact, much more better, but as said, no margin for error at the laser speed controls the plod uses here, and not quite so good economy any more.
