Splitting 750 Bosch headlight case

I don't want to damage anything so wanting to know how the bucket is removed from the rim. I see the open slot on the bucket that doesn't seem to do anything, and I don't see anything on the rim slot, but it has a slight depression in it. I'm familiar w/ others that use a retaining clip there. I'm guessing there's some sort of twisting/wedging w/ a screwdriver but don't want to mangle it. Also, is there an upgrade for the halogen lamp and what Bosch number would that be? Thank you again!

On my 3c, probably the same as a twin but check, requires me to just use a big 10mm wide flat-bladed screwdriver between the chrome rim and the bucket at the top and levering them apart, it's a bit brutal the first time. Dont remember seeing that slot through. Refitting requires engaging the rim up into the bottom edge of the bucket and firmly snapping it together with pressure, dont bang it, at the top. Also pretty brutal, Don't push on the glass or it will either break or be dislodged off its W clips that hold the glass to the rim. Proper connection happens with a good solid click and a nice even tight connection all around its circumference.

Thanks- so how do I access that bottom spring clip and from which slot?. I,ve inserted a screw driver into both slots and don,t notice any sort of clip or retainer

From memory there should be as spring clip of some sort visible through the slot in the shell. Pushing this in should allow you to pry the bottom lip away and bingo. Maybe the spring clip is broken? If so, pry carefully from the bottom while wedging between shell and rim. Will be obvious how it works ... once it's off  :ROFLMAO:

Thanks guys- I see in an exploded diagram 2 spring clips along the inner sides. I also see a running light indicated. There's nothing behind the open slot on the bucket so I'll try gently prying it apart. God only knows what the PO did to it. The bucket itself is damaged from rubbing against the speedo and I want to install a brighter halogen bulb if possible. Gradually fixing all the cosmetic and mechanical aspects of this bike-

Yes, it did come apart w/ a little screw driver coaxing.
Question on the light itself- the bike's currently not running but has a charged battery. When the lights are turned on w/ ignition key all the way to the right, the head light seems very dim and there's no difference between High and Low setting. So I'm wondering if the bike needs to be running for the light to be brighter and I'm thinking that the high beam light itself is burnt out. Is there a brighter Bosch halogen that the electrical system can handle, and if so, what's the Bosch part number? Thanks again Forum!

Key turned all the way to the right is for leaving the bike in the dark, with parking (small bulb in headlight reflector, instruments and tail light) on, with ignition (hence neutral light) off. Key can be withdrawn.

I've fitted an LED parking lamp, brighter and less battery drain.

Also an LED headlamp bulb, same reasons, with considerable better lighting on country roads.

Damned impressive piccies there Sock, good enough for a sales brochure.... almost ethereal, your a canny lad.

Tis' somewhat funny reading the new owner, to ways of the Laverda world.... TeddyG will soon be like the rest of us, fatalist realist... or so it is perceived in my world, Laverda at times, a wry smile here.

Yes, I'm slowly getting schooled about Laverda from this Forum and working on the bike. Now that it's apart, I can see the simple detachment method- just press a screw driver into the open slot on the bucket to release this tang.

Sock- forgive my ignorance, but which LED light and number will replace the halogen? The sealed lens on mine is dirty inside- too bad there's no way to clean it that I know of. I'd also like to replace the faded instrument faces but that appears to be a costly item I'll consider later.

The headlight is an Auxito H4. I got mine on Ebay.

Parking light is a B9s, if memory serves correctly. Don't bother with a "CANBUS corrected", you don't need it, but do check the dimensions of the replacement LED to make sure it'll fit.

SF2 lens/reflector unit is an odd size IIRC - SF1 had a std 7 inch H4 and many replacement options were available in the day (std car fitment back then). I bought a replacement Bosch light from a mid-70s Volvo - excellent units. You can easily run a higher wattage H4 halogen in an SF if you want - the gennies actually pump out plenty once at normal riding revs - Lee and i used to do night runs with a 60W high beam plus a 60W Cibie H2 driving light. Alternatively, go with an LED.

A relay is always a good idea for headlights, as it removes the LH switch from the circuit, where a lot of resistance robs you of usable light. Not as important with LEDs but if you need to replace a bulb in the middle of nowhere (BFN, anybody?) and LEDs are rare a halogen may be your only option.

The lens isn't sealed. The glass is glued on to the reflector. You can separate and use silicon on rebuild.

Just don't use Autosol to attempt to get it shiny again. They are silvered like a mirror and that's extremely soft. Guess how I know. BTW my headlight must be upside down as I distinctly remember unclicking it from the top with a big screwdriver and refiting it first at the bottom and pushing it closed from the bottom first and finally clicking it closed at the top. Unlikely as the wiring assess holes are underneath. Does anyone else have a headlight like that? Another Laverda mystery.

If it's an original Bosch SF2/3 headlamp, the lens isn't fixed to the reflector. it has a rubber seal fitted to the lens and sits in the lip of the reflector.
Be VERY careful if trying to clean the mirroring on the inside. the coating is very fragile!Laverda Handbook Page 98 Head, tail lamp parts.jpgLaverda Handbook Page 99 Head, tail lamp part numbers.jpg
