Sprockets and chain

Yes, warranty has more provisions than the chain has links, but I have never had a prob with their chains.

Red has put your chains inside the engine, so 2 out of 3 ain't bad to quote Meatloaf.

Get steel sprockets, if your sprocket is flat you can but a 10B-1 platewheel
with any number of teeth very cheaply and get it machined

Hi Boba - I used a platewheel  in my 860 as I fitted a different wheel and needed a solid sprocket to machine - they are quite cheap (in UK) - also, as Andy says, you can get any size you want - Regards - Phil

Davo you should not a problem with them thats the whole point.

But should you want to run what was standard then you have a problem.

I will stick my neck on the line by saying iwis is the best with Regina a close
second. Go out in OZ and try to source iwis, its impossible so you are left with crap.

Get the bloody talk fund started.

Thanks for the info Andy. My gut feeeling is that the non 'o' ring chain would suite day rides but as I intend doing a four thousand km round trip in a couple of months, I reckon a good quality 'o' or 'x' chain is most probably the way to go.
Motel owners might get a bit upset if I start cleaning and boiling up the chain in their rooms ;).
Once again, thanks for your imput, even if you have been typing in the nuddy, you twisted chap.

Motel? You old softie. What's wrong with a swag? Well, apart from the hard ground, rain, no dunny, no hot shower, having to eat burned stew (peppered with flies) out of a dirty billy, then making a cuppa that tastes of stew. Not to mention setting fire to your hair while boiling your chain on a camp cooker ... (pathetic attempt to stay on topic)

A man's got to know his comfort limitations  :D

Been reading with interest. I'll definitely be going with a non-O-ring chain on my next build. Until they appeared on the scene I did big, big miles on non-O chains - I had incredible mileage out of a brand called 'Diamond', riding daily in around Melbourne, then from Melbourne to Darwin & beyond in all weathers, loads of dirt - never removed it to clean it. The distance I did on it was incredible.

Out of interest, I recall buying primary or cam chain replacement from Oz agents Stanco once back in the 70s and it was definitely IWIS. If anyone's interested in iwis 530, maybe we could bulk buy from Andy?

So Red, you are my man when I want primaries and SF cam chain doubles(?) sourced by Andy?

Diamond chain was a good brand from USA, at one point there was also an Indian brand
Diamond and it all got a bit messy.

Once again most chain is made to DIN which unfortunately is a minimum standard, the old
old Renold and still the iwis is typically made 1/3 above the DIN.

When iwis dumb down I will stop trading so I hope they dont.

I'm running Andy's non-Oring Iwis 530 on my Jota.
One initial adjustment after a couple of hundred kms, but none since.    Needs a little lube from time to time.
Very happy with it, so far.
