Squeeling Brakes

Just spray WD over them that will stop the squeeling,no worries after this :D :D :D :D :D

Yeah - and let your widow send Rufustbear the bill for your funeral together with the receipts from the bike shop for the full rebuild of your bike.  ???

Sorry to be devils advocate here, but even if meant funny and we only have adults here, please consider that nothing is stupid enough that there is not one trying it... Example:

My brothers girlfriend once cleaned her bike and used chrome-polish on the brake disks. Can't fool her for that, the cover said "For all chromed parts" - and my brother had just explained her why her bikes brake disks are not rusty while Roberts bike had rusty ones: "Cause there is a higher level of Chrome in your bikes disks".

Fortunately my brother was riding that bike before she did. Rear brake was a drum brake, that saved him from crashing into a car in front of him...

Since nobody else seems to be sober for this thread ::), you can deglaze brake discs yourself by lightly rubbing the surface in a radial direction with fine emery cloth. Just rub hard enough that you get bright metal beginning to appear. This shouldn't create any problems with uneven wear, but it does take a while. Clean off thoroughly when you're finished, though, it does leave a lot of very abrasive residue.
Or you can have an engineering shop do it with a grinding wheel, but the setup is really fiddly, as others have mentioned. They'll either grind the discs too thin, or they'll charge you so much for setting up properly that you'll wish you hadn't done it (guess how I know ::). Try it yourself first.

if it keeps one idiot from trying WD40 on brakes, I am happy to take the piss being called humorless...  ;)

Not sure how much of humor you have left if anyone tries that on YOUR brakes... :P

Thank you for the advice on deglazing. I will try that next. I went for a bout a 100 mile ride and initially the brakes were quiet. After about an hour of riding the twisties, the squeel returned.
Initially I'll try the emery paper with the rotors on the bike. However should that fail, I might rebuild the caliburs. If I take the rotors off, I might as well get the wheels powder coated gold(as I have been planning) and then of course the rear wheel will need to get done. And If I do the wheels, I might as well replace the tires. It got expensive all of a sudden.

On the Honda[cars] I work on,the pad sets we get have a packet of MolyKote grease included. It uses a solvent in it that evaporates leaving a thick paste and it dampens noise really well. I've never had a problem with noise on any of the what seems like millions of brake jobs I've done. You could try asking a tech at your local dealer if they have any lying around.

Hi Lothar

Be more concerned if I got wd 40 on my tyres.

                                                                    Dave.

No, you are supposed to use Armor-All on the tires, and don't forget to do the seat too.
The part everyone forgets is to give the keys to a sober party beforehand.

All Italian bikes are designed to use Olive Oil in the crankcase. That's why Ducatis keep self-destructing > idiots put motor oil in them.
