stalled project getting moving again

I have the wind screen sorted. Used a vise to clamp a belt sander upside down, fired it up, and offered the marked screen to the belt. Worked really well, I still have my head........

Amazing how much I had to take off in three different areas to finally get it to fit and fit pretty evenly. Probably about a three hour adventure start to finish just to put the wind screen on, bloody hell. Anyway, rainy long weekend here, spending lots of quality garage time on the bike, and have started cleaning up as I go, I am at the stage of the project where tools are scattered everywhere and I am starting to have to hunt for things. A little bit of time organizing and cleaning and putting things away are in order..... I wish I was the type who put each tool away after each use, but I am.....not ;)

OCTs' policy is to retain the very last of every stocked OE item for future reference, expressly for the purpose of remanufacturing.  Every time we come across a good example of a rare "unobtainable" item, this is locked away as well!
Reminds me of Morgan and Wacker in Brisbane in the 70s when they sold British bikes (before they started selling Harleys, that's another story). You'd fang down there on a Saturday morning looking to buy some Triumph bits to replace bits that had fallen off or burned up or just broke. They'd look up the part number, disappear for a few minutes and reappear, part(s) in hand, and hand them to you with "This wot you need, mate?". You'd be ecstatic. Then they'd say "Sorry, that's the last one, we'll have to order from the UK, you just missed the last order so it'll be a couple of months" and take the part back. I never found out why they had to keep parts in stock that they wouldn't sell (might have been a warranty issue occurs to me now) but back in the days before the Internet that was a really sad thing to happen. I wonder how many people bought rice burners because of one dealer's odd business model.

Gustafsons's just got back to me with the link, so I just ordered the medium smoke grey screen from Gustafson's    http://bikescreen.com/products/laverda-jota-1981-1982  Shipping to Canda is $57 so I ordered some other things as well.

now down to the "short strokes" in finishing the rebuild, my "To Do" list is down to 7 items. Bloody hell, I amn ready to be finished, but I know that once the bike is registered and insured there is then going to be a shakedown/fettling process.

anyone ever wonder what the term "short strokes" refers to..... :o
