Sticking float

What would cause a Jota, Del Orto carb float to be sticking down? I turn the fuel off and run the engine to empty the carbs. When I come back to it, I turn on the taps and fuel starts pissing out of the left side carb. Give the float bowl little tap with a bit of wood and it stops. Ok, easy enough to whip off the float bowl but what should I look for that might cause it?

typically, it is either corrosion or the rest of the gas that makes them sticky. Typically solved by a little tap on the float bowl. If not, float bowl off and manually move the floats. should help.

the question has to be.......xxx...???
does it have white floats or black floats
beware the white ones.

On the old (original) black float, check the backstop tang adjustment. This is what limits the travel of the float when bowl is empty. Injudicious previous adjustment can cause the float assembly to stick or jam in the lowered position.

Exactly what i was thinking, Rob. Sounds very much like when the fuel drains the float drops and catches somewhere. Easy fix I'd imagine.
