I saw Sterling Moss, Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart race at Mossport Ontario back in the day (69 or 70).

Sadly the race had to be cut short due to rain and Jackie Stewart was declared the winner.

They have a specific corner at the Mossport track named "Moss's Corner".
 
A sad loss indeed.
Met him back in the Tasman Series days at Wigram. Pleasant and had the time for an enthusiastic kid.

There's a well known local story here.
Moss turned up to the main gate of Wigram on race day - without his passes. They were inside with the team boss.
The head man on the gate was a well known ChCh garage owner - Shotgun Charlie McIvor.
Got the name from his way of dealing with a group of thieves who tried to hold him up....

Charlie said "No passes, no entry"

Moss was quite nice about it, someone fetched the passes and he raced. Shared a beer at the after race function and Charlie became a fan.
 
When I was a boy, I had a Sterling Moss green matchbox car, with Sterling Moss inside the car.
Mini Moss must have loved being in that car, he never got out, ever.

My favourite corner at Mosport. It is a double apex corner and the proper entry is enter tight to the apex of 5a  then go wide and come tight again at 5b ........ loved that corner and even passed someone once with a slight off course excursion ( me staying upright and they not staying upright is how I pulled it off).

Moss and Fangio and their ilk are the racers we may never see again.

I recall watching Stirling Moss race too. It was a long time ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. My dad was working in London in the late 1950's so we moved to UK for a couple of years. One day we went to Silverstone for some big international race meeting. I was just a little kid but was quite interested in racing so I knew a bit about many of the competitors. Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham, Bruce McLaren, Graham Hill, Carroll Shelby, etc. Moss and Brabham were like heroes to a kid like me. Stirling Moss started from pole position, but being Australians, we were waving the Aussie flag for Jack Brabham. Our flag waving must have helped because Jack won that day.

Sad hear that he just died. But he had a pretty good innings and achieved a lot more than most of us ever will. Good on him.
 
Just surviving that ira of racing was an achievement. So many were killed. He came over in interviews like a true Gentleman in the correct sense of that word, polite and considerate. Probably not on the track I bet. That don't make race drivers much like that these days.
 
Stirling moss was the Pres of one of the clubs I belong to "The HGPCA"  Sad news, he was a great ambassador to the sport of motor racing.
