Tach for a 100

Ive been thinking it would be nice to have a tachometer on my 100 Sport since the thing gets revved so hard most of the time. I've poked around the web a bit but I have not come up with anything that seems quite right. I want a traditional analog tach, driven electrically off the HT lead. Have you seen anything appropriate? Alternatively, is this a pointless exercise?

You won't dare use it any more if you put a rev counter on it.
You need to rev the balls off it.

Works singles were good for 11 000 apparently.

Ride it by the seat of your pants, just keep it on the boil.  If it blows, it blows... not necessarily at max rpm, tach won't help.

Keeping it in fine tune is far more important.

Thanks Piet. I talked to Scott Potter (who built the engine) about this yesterday and reached the same conclusion. Seat of the pants works fine for me on the larger bikes but I don't have much experience riding these little ones and I wasn't sure if I could trust my intuition.

A friend of mine recently told me a story about an amateur racer friend of his who installed an electric tach on his Bultaco racer. In the first race he couldn't figure out why it didn't seem to be revving. After pushing to get the revs up for a few laps the engine blew and he later discovered that the tach he installed was set up for a four-stroke and his Bultaco was revving twice as high as the counter showed.
