Why was this used instead of the well-known CEV?
I managed to recover this ZKW tailight, I don't know if I got a bargain to make a replica but I would say it serves the same function ...The main reason to use these tail lights was the fact that there were three separate bulbs in it, so if a bulb blew, there still was another one. The third bulb was a brake light. The first ones dat were used were made by Philips and mounted by Dutch importer Raymakers. The factory started to use them too, but similar tail lights were made in Italy. The one in the picture is an Italian one, which had a lens with a different shape.

Those were used by the factory too, yes.I managed to recover this ZKW tailight, I don't know if I got a bargain to make a replica but I would say it serves the same function ...
What do you say?

I understand they were mounted on these vehicles (Steyr-Puch Haflinger):They look as if they were made for a truck or trailer...Or a harvester maybe...?

Interesting, ISAW "3 bulbs" is identical to the one in the following photo (LAVERDA 24 hours of Le Mans 'Le Bol d'Or' 1972); probably many brands of the same type were used:

I was told it was made by Philips. Impossible to find - I gave up looking and used a CEV unit off a Chott, suitably rubber mounted
