tcip4.exe on Android

Just had a look at ignitech website and the interface used, its RS485 ( multidrop serial comms ) nothing to do with RS232, other than both are serial comms protocols (*). RS422/485 differential 5V and RS232 differential +-12V to 15v.... should that help in clarity. j

BTW ignitech never use the term RS485, that is cleaned from the serialising interface chip website/URL they link to. "Com" port is obscure in this context, it was clear in the day of its mainstream use. One or One and half or two stop bits with your tea? Flintstone Cafe...

(*) Strictly speaking, RSxxx is a hardware definition, not what is actually defined and carried as a data stream upon the defined RSxxx interfaces end to end, half duplex, and type of connecting wires form, STP UTP et al.

I probably need to apologise for my cat kicking, and lack of sense of hummer. The last thing I want is to discourage any helpful brainstorming. I think this is an important development and needs support.
Most of this is way over my head...but I assume it is something like the remap I did to my Husky fuel injected 701sm...bought a unit from tuners, plugged in to laptop, loaded info from bike, sent to tuner in file they modified, sent back, i loaded to the unit and then downloaded to the bike, following the instructions on the unit. Shouldnt be needed on a new bike, but was very jerky, apparently because they are programmed that way to get through emissions testing.ยฃ500 well spent...so tech did work on that occasion, hope it does for you Laverda. I dont seem to need to fiddle with my Redax supplied sachse though...

RS232 or PL2303, I don't know what to call this. But it works with laptop to tcip4, so I'm hoping it would also work with mobile to tcip4... The second thing in the picture is otg-usb, which is needed to connect the cable to mobile...

As I said in the Atlas thread there were thousands of fixes for Flat slide Keihans on mid-2000 model dirtbikes bikes to fix all kinds of hiccups just before Fuel Injection became the norm and that was going to be perfect, for about 5 seconds and then thousands of remaps were needed to make that perfect for every application. Nothing is ever perfect including my suspension. There were lots of Ignition map adjustments that happened to my Ingatech when it was fitted, mine was a very early install plus I have a very odd engine build that needed to be adapted too. One of the Sydney blokes has a dash-mounted Air Fuel metre running constantly that he loves playing with, I just remembered I also have an exhaust collector bung welded in to do the same thing, I chased up a bunch of these years ago for Red from Sainty Engineering but mine has never been fitted with a sensor. So there is a lot of interest in the potential of data acquisition off a phone.

OK, I tested the setup. Even though the tcip4.exe is running on mobile and the usb to com cable is regognized, the program was not able to get connection to actual ignition unit. To be honest, I would have been surprised if it had been this easy.

The tcip.exe is a user interface to edit the settings in text format and then the settings are send and saved to tcip4. If I've understood correctly, the data is stored in the microcontroller using binary code, so there must be other factors to consider than a simple emulator installation.

But I won't give up. I will do some more research in a better time, and if I get any progress, I'll post it here...

...would you happen to know how to fix the malfunctioning led dash in my..Fiat 500?๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Always amazes me that when googling a fault like this, a zillion others have had it! Its got to be removed and sent awsy..even by the specialist auto electrical chappies...

..Italian shit, eh?๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Real world comms from any cross platform ( emulation ) is going to be a significant obstacle, unless the native program makes hard calls to the vector code. While this will work, it locks the native program into a known hardware map of interrupts and calls. Like what games did in the day to speed up the onscreen and input device responces. Worked, until the hardware changed, then nothing worked or did not work as intended.

Many many programs these days are written in high level language, with super fast processors and associated support chips or architecture(s). All looks super sophisticated, the actual execution of the processor instruction set is what happens, no matter "high level language" elaborate and clever or no. This dependence that modern designers are attempting to remove, until a new architecture is invented, it will be a trade off. Basic underpinning is Motorola for Apple and Intel for MS, various derivatives thrown in.

Cape, you did well to adventure with what "if's", as i understand it, the PL2303 and associated derivatives are interface or level matching silicon, not a standard for hardware as such, by description. Welcome to electronics, where it is rare to get something for nothing..sic. HTH j

What you may have a success with would be a web based application, to initilise the target on bike controller, this would have to come from ignitech themselves, a substantial investment, encompassing Java for one.

Did this with an Italian clever programmer application, and used a web based WiFi controller for DMX512 ( RS485 comms ) stage lighting i designed. Seamless operation from laptop to hand held devices, ipad and smart phones alike, Linux, android or IOs even the dreadful Winxx, all will work under a standards derived web based initiative.

Maybe in future those of you making what you think is a funny reply could possibly put a smiling/ laughing emoji on the end of your comment ๐Ÿ˜Š. Particularly helpful for those whose language is not the same as the posterโ€™s language. Just a thought and the maybe people wouldnโ€™t be so quick to start hunting trolls๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘

Critics need oxygen, that comes from being noticed and acknowledged, ignore them and they die alone..... one ( of mine ) from the music industry j.

Ive never seen a troll on here? Amazes me how hyper woke and sensitive some folk are, especially from the hitherto rufty tufty southern hemisphere. And whats wrong with critics...you seem to heading to no patforming? Oh yeah, nearly forgot๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

When I was setting up the Weber on my BMC A-series I used an AFR gauge temporarily taped to the car. It worked a treat and saved hours of time doing plug chops.

I never have responded well too, insert polite comment. So I am sensitive too, inset another polite comment and respond in, another polite comment. Not from a particularly soft world around here. Plug chops aren't too successful with the soup we get. The only bodge I found at jetting was either adding choke to good or bad effect or running at full throttle for a while and then slightly reducing throttle, if I remember right if it surges or doesn't drop power it lean on the main jet. I really like instruments that give a definitive Scientific result. Way better at jetting 2 stokes just by ear. Bit less scientific though.

It would be good to meet you Vince...hope you get you bike where you want it to be for 2024. ๐Ÿ˜Š Im just hoping my once in a lifetime biking trip to Kyushi island Japan will be good to go in March...renting a Yam MT03..900 triple

I just google it, lots of mountain roads. Sounds brilliant. Enjoy
Thanks Vince.not ridden one of those..hope plane doesnt crash and there are no volcano eruptions!! Found some vids on youtube of pretty Japenese hipster girl on retro sr500 touring about there...sorry for thread hijack!

 Haha, Sensitive new age forum, care required if piss taking these days, although ozijotati's suggestion about emojis has merit:ROFLMAO:;)
Best bet is to go for a ride, get away from anything internety (?), clear the head, just the noise of your Lav (or whatever takes your fancy), a sensible person to talk to (well I do sometimes argue with myself!!) and all's well with the world..............๐ŸŒน
