Take BHP. They asked the unions to agree to a moratorium on future wage increases because they were experiencing liquidity problems. The unions agreed but a few years down the track BHP started returning serious profit so the unions asked for a pay rise that reflected the loss of wages increase over the previous years and for the personal sacrifice workers had shown helping keep the company going. BHP refused the unions request, offering a lesser amount and the usual diatribe about how they couldn't afford it and they had to listen to their shareholders etc etc. Then as recently as last week BHP is now telling the government that they were "thinking" of investing in future projects but because of the current fighting over energy issues they have decided to look else where. Well fuck me we all know what happens next. Is BHP running the country or is it the government?
