The Aussie depository.....

It may seem a stupid thing but for crying out loud it has been part of the constitution since day 1. Anyone with half a brain would tick all the boxes relating to eligibility to stand for Federal Parliament before they signed up, and the party they are aligned with should be ensuring 100% compliance with the law. As if the Rod Culleton affair with the PHON party wasn't hysterical enough.

It can't be that hard can it. Mother/Father/Grandparent born overseas then check to see if foreign nationality is conferred before you tick the box.

Yeh, this is the silliest one yet. The first 2 pretty straight forward - plain slackness and not the first time.
Canavan - quite bizarre, hard to believe, might be more to that story.
But the Joyce one :o
Another country stating you are (?) a citizen (without your request or consent) - probably catch a few more with that sort of nonsense!!??
And of course politicised to the nth degree, just like every other issue. ::)

My first experience with this dual citizenship thing involved involved a mate who had a grandfather who was a Great Brittener and that allowed him to apply for a passport from Pommyland and travel through Europe easier. Makes no sense to me,maybe we should ask Rupert Murdoch what worked best for him.How do you have or need to nationalities at the same time, on purpose or by accident.

Rupert renounced his Australian citizenship when he became a citizen of the USA.

Yeah, I looked at using my mum's Scottish birth to get a pommy passport a few years back after travelling around UK and EU. I got sick of standing for ages in the "aliens" queue at customs, while all the Indians, Arabs and Chinese were trotting through customs in no time through the "EU citizens" gate.  But the paperwork and fees required to become a UK citizen was a pain in the arse, so I gave up.

The strange thing is that if my father or paternal grandfather had been British, I would have been considered a British citizen without having to apply. The maternal didn't count when I was born. It does now, but is not retrospective. So I reckon I'll just stay an Aussie.

Funny, in amongst all this stupidity we are happy for one of our largest Companies to pay their (foreign) CEO $10m+ pa.
Ian Narev is a Kiwi :o                (Think you're gonna get him back Greg :-*)

Wouldn't have a clue who he is - I don't keep up with Aussie business or - usually - politics.
I see on our TV news Julie Abbot going feral about our Labour party being behind it - interfering with another country's
internal politics. Ha - it was started by your press, not by the enquiry from the Oz labour party.
At least now we know who's the driver behind the anti kiwi movement - has she got history with a kiwi bloke I wonder...

Don't worry Greg, they are all a bunch of bottom feeders without an ounce of integrity, they will do absolutely anything to remain in power.

Abbotts the ex PM,Bishop is the name of the female foreign minister you are referring to.Its the best laugh I have had in years, Barnaby's PM with Turnbull away so we had a Kiwi running the place for a while.

LOL - there's too many of us over there for you to get them all.
The ARL for one would come to a grinding halt if you tossed the kiwi's out...

Re dual citizenship, the UK got tough on Commonwealth riders who wanted to come over and ride professionally many years back. The few Kiwis who did manage it had UK born parents or grandparents. Robert Holden comes to mind as one with dual citizenship. If you want to do it now and don't qualify, looks like you're best to go to Spain.

From my experience of Aussie politicians, if they spent half the amount of effort running the country as they do trying to get each other the sack then things would be so much better!

Of course cheap shots are much easier!

Julie Abbot

Very close. Actually Julie Asbestos, the bitch lawyer who tried to save James Hardy gazillions by delaying, delaying, delaying court hearings hoping that those ex workers suffering with asbestosis and mesotheliomas would die before they got to court.
