A question. In Oz when someone asks for a "first oversize" piston, is it common to receive the biggest oversize made for that motor ?

In point of fact, SIX millimeters oversize vs the desired half mm.

A customer of mine ordered a piston for his XR500 Honda from an aussie supplier - who shall remain nameless - and as stated received a bloody enormous slug.
As it was under Covid lockdown, what could we do ? What I had to do in the end was find a sleeve and make the whole shooting match fit...
Annoying - and time consuming.

Oh - and you're not winning the rugby this weekend, sorry.

That's not oversize, that's a big bore conversion!! Only 2mm less than me going from 750 to 880 on the SFQ. I'd make them send another one and keep the monster slug!

They wouldn't answer his emails. Under level 4 lockdown here at the time he was lucky to get the parcel at all.

I suspect once they'd realised what they'd done they simply thought - "It's NZ, what can he do anyway" and walked away.

Nah, first oversize means the same everywhere I suspect. I reckon somebody mis-read the order and sent you an XR600 piston. They're 6mm bigger than the 500 slug (same stroke).  Pretty lousy service not answering emails though.

Your customer should be pleased. He'll now have a 567cc engine that'll give a little more grunt.  :D
