Plus the Dingos might get me. BTW I seem to remember Maxine telling me you 2 ran drilling rigs out that way, and crazy to me mid-summer, that's mind-blowing considering the Giles Weather Station has the record or did for the highest Oz temperature

Great Centre Road is just a super highway now full of 4wds. Should be paved in the next couple if years. No longer the adventure it was.

I have never been on that road, but it did remind me of a story, so at least for my amusement.................
Back in 1978 a mate and I were in WA (I was on a Honda
, mate on an 860 Duc) and decided we'd visit another mate who used to live near us. He had moved to WA and was living in a shanty town somewhere past Leonora trying to make a living fossicking for gold. We knew (thought) we should have enough fuel to get to Leonora however there was virtually no signs leading out of Kalgoorlie so we found a road heading north and set out. (Just used to point and go in those days, I still like to try and do that)
A little way along there was a sign which was just a plank of wood nailed to a post with Leonora written on it and how far, all looked good, so pressed on. Occasionally we would come to another sign and things weren't adding up.
We eventually realised that the signs were still in miles not kms and we weren't confident they were even right. It looked like we would run out of fuel and there was virtually no other traffic. Anyway, taking it very easy we eventually rolled into Leonora, both on reserve, to the welcome sight of a bowser. Can't remember what the place was called we were heading to or how far from Leonora but knew it wasn't that far so off we go and found the small shanty town no worries. No problems finding out which was our mates house either, we just asked a couple of kids who ran up to see what we were doing there!
Stayed overnight, enjoying a couple of cold tallies, then rode out to the hills with him in the morning to see where he went everyday to try and strike it rich. There were a number of blokes doing the same who were basically mining the top layer left as uneconomic by the larger miners. Hit and miss and hard work! Still plenty of old infrastructure left abandoned.
After helping him shift a couple of bits of gear we decided we were just soft tourists and headed back on our way to Perth where after a late start. we eventually arrived about 10 o'clock that night!!
Apologies for this totally irrelevant story, this area is not even at the western end of the road in question (although not that far away) but it's still godforsaken country - and I love it. I did find an old pic (converted slide) which was where we visited (basically just mining shacks).

that is correct, after meeting me Maxene got to work in nearly every desert that Australia has, we drilled in the Great Sandy, Simpson, Great Victoria, Tanami, Gibson, Pedirka and Tirari Deserts over a period of roughly 10 years
She is such a lucky girl
