Thimble in the headlight.

One of the CIMA ,classic Italian etc etc blokes pointed out that the bucket come thimble gadget that sits out in front of the bulb off the reflector has broken off and is sitting against the glass inside the shell on my 3C.I suppose my options are replacing the reflector or just pulling the broken bit out and leaving it out.Are these reflectors available for 180mm headlights, are these thimble gadgets important.I need the rubber seal for the glass as well. Are the rubbers available as well.

Leave it out and use a H4 bulb with the front covered in grey, which does the same thing as the thimble.

Gerald

if the broken off cap has been flogging around in the reflector, for a while, ya reflector will be farked.  well, the lower section will be.
sometimes i've got lucky and got a replacement reflector or glass & seal from an old-time BMW shop.
back in the '80's, some of the boxer air-heads had similar fitted.  but no one gives 'em away anymore.  take a fresh credit card with ya.

The reflectors, lenses, and seals are all still current production Bosch parts. I got a complete new set a couple of years ago from a German eBay supplier, genuine Bosch but from the Czech republic. But my local Ducati dealer had sold me one when I dropped the headlight first time I pried it out, and it wasn't even very expensive.
