Timing a degree or two off?

See pics...Crank gear male tooth arrow meets between oil pump gear teeth w/ arrows together & w/ punch mark on oil pump gear 12 oclock. Timing cam gear is in line w/ mark on head on top. I'm off a degree or two! If I disconnect timing chain & go a tooth back I'm afraid I'll be a degree or two off other side. Can points adjustment make the setting right?
There was movement when tightening crank gear nut. When I turn oil pump gear & crank gear where arrows meet TDC together. Punch 12 oclock on oil pump gear is slightly right of TDC. & Cam gear marks are a degree or two off.
Also the shaft holding the Primary chain tensioner to case has a tapered end. Looks like tapered end goes engine side not cover side...Right? I took it apart & did not take notice which end goes where.

I can't see the cam chain wheel mark clearly, but what I think it is looks ok, if you move a tooth it will be miles out. For getting cam timing correct always use the RH side of the crankshaft (starter clutch pulley marks), I use a pointer to what I am sure is TDC, and usually the cam marks are "near enough" aligned and moving a tooth would be way out. Otherwise you have to slot things and use other methods to degree in the cam timing, not generally necessary on a stock SF with a fresh cam chain. The oil pump timing gears are for the ignition, and there should be adjustment enough to get the ignition timed correctly.
From memory I always have the pivot for the primary chain tensioner slipper with the chamfered end out, blunt side in, not sure if it has any significance though.

Don't be too obsessive.
If you're using points, the setting will have moved after 200 miles.
If you really want to be obsessive, I should think that you'd need to time each side independently because the cam halves are probably not quite synchro.

Thanks, I'll leave it. Was worried about moving a tooth over again & having Cam Gear marks in the same position (a degree off or more) but on the other side as it looks! The pistons are TDC through the plug holes. The mark on the Cam Gear on top is slightly down w/ head mark on engine rotation. Would definantly be up above engine rotation if I move it a tooth back & the marks could be off worse...
All together on frame #s will match & I'll have room to start 8787!
