Touring bike hols using a van and trailer

It looks like the custom and excise bandits are trying to charge up to 25% of the value of the bikes carried in the trailer. (working on the premis that we are importing bikes to sell in the UK..despite having taken them out a week earlier) Returning from a touring holiday in Spain. we've been using a Vito and big box trailer to get to our area of choice in SPAIN, We hire a villa and ride out every day, been doing this for around 8 years with no problem...looks like a BREXIT BENIFIT NOT. Anyone got direct experience of this .... we may have to ride them to spain and back.... forgo the cost saving of the van and trailer. Four extra ferry fees, four lots of petrol, squared off tyres, Overnights etc etc Big cost difference`!

You might now need one of those xxx, forget the name but it's a French phrase and is a kind of bond for temporary imports of a vehicle when touring.

You can actually import an old bike from the USA or elsewhere for far less than that. There is a lot of disinformation around at the moment but I have several bikes in Portugal so I suppose I'll find out one way or another.

Try to put it under relocation when you move away.
 
Isn't a carnet for having your vehicle in a foreign country. If it is in your name on British plates it should be allowed back in without anything even on the trailer shouldn't it?

You would have thought so especially as you can prove you only took the bike on holiday it says you shouldnt need a carnet on the govt website too but it does say you can be charged for re-importing it, honestly the shit we're having to put up with post you know what.

Technically we export the bike whn entering another country and re-import it when we return so the Customs feel free to charge you 25% of its value thats what we're being told despite only using it for leisure. and not selling it on abroard
 
I know the petition is for third parties that transport bikes for customers but it seems they are applying it to people with vans and trailers as though we are commercial hauliers

Your government doesn't have to agree anything with the EU.
The whole stupid situation arises from the fact that the EU was held responsible for all sorts of problems.

The problem is on your side of the English Channel, known as the Pas-de-Calais here.

Its juat a massive pain in the Arse we cancelled our spain trip 4 times due to Covid now were getting charged to take our own bikes away with us on holiday Yes its our customs it seems and our GOVT thats got its head up its arse
