FWIW,

Loctite have a process for impregnating porosities in castings with a product, can't quite remember what, but it will withstand the conditions inside combustion chambers (might be better to use a ceramic coating there anyway). May well help those that tend to leak although I don't know if it has implications for welding should that sort of repair be required. I believe it can also be used to fill pinholes in the hard chrome on fork stanchions. I looked into this after getting the Ceriani stanchions straightened then rechromed. The tubes had noticeable pinholes in the surface when i picked them up. The plater claimed that chrome naturally did that.

who did you use to do your forks, ?
RAD Hard chroming ?
we have had dozens done there, normally hold six sets of fork stanchions in stock ready to go but down to 3 sets at the moment, need to take another batch in
never had any pin holes in the chrome from them

Used the Loctite product on the cases of the Pantah after a welding repair. When it was owned by a mate he had a zip open on a backpack allowing a scarf to tangle with the final drive chain, lucky to not do an Isadora Duncan.Famous dancer who died of a broken neck after a scarf got tangled in the wheel of the Bugatti she was in.Anyway after applying the Loctite product it stopped spraying oil out through the weld.

Loctite 290
It was discussed in the thread about the hairline cracks at the camchain tunnel of Motoddrob?s triple.
The stuff works brilliantly, wicks its way in to any thread or porosity. Important to use a very effective solvent to remove oil first. We used to use some evil smelling Loctite primer stuff.

All welded up now thanks to Red. Also decked the top face so the cams run nicely too :) I did do the 290 trick but never ran it so can't say if it would've worked or not.

Rob, I doubt it would have been suitable as I think there was stress in the area that caused the cracking, not just porosity. Glad to hear it is sorted. You?ll be out scaring 28 parrots from the roadside soon I hope :-)
It isn?t just Lavs that have transition irregularities. A mate was mechanic for a team running GPZ Kawas back in the day, two bikes under a year apart supposedly identical models but the cam covers wouldn?t fit each other.

it was a good weld then ?
CLEM
The bits got joined together but it didn't hold oil, discovered that by following him in the car and the windscreen got a fine covering, the bikes back tyre got wet as well.

Look like Series 1 cases to me too, but they're advertised as 120°. How's that possible?

I'm sort of vaguely half tempted to think about maybe buying them (depending on freight cost) so I can build up a spare 180° engine, and make use of the cylinders, head and other bits I have lying around.

Is 400 € about the going rate for a good set of Series 1 cases?

Cam

PS: Just checking the advertisement again, and it describes the cases as "new". I've sent him an email to ask if they have a number stamped on them.

The set I got of Wolfgang cost me $650 but I dont remember if it was Can or Oz dollars, just bloody happy at the time to get them.thats maybe 5 or 6 years back

add $300 to that for current prices and you are close, landed cost in Australia, in AUD

Well, it was over 10 years ago so I can't recall for sure - but I think they were located on Cosgrove Road in Enfield, Sydney.

Can't say I've done any distance on the bike in recent years either, but the pocked surface was allowing oil to weep past the seals. *sigh* Another thing that needs to be sorted prior to getting it going again.

He has other adverts up too Red, I think he mentions dualseat, wire wheels etc but I was only teasing really ....mind you the tank and panels are nice. Marry it all up to the 74 frame in the USA and away you go!
