triple crankshaft length

Hi!

I am preparing my 750 crankshaft to ship across Europe, I was recommended to buy a Peli case, which looks very fancy but is f.... expensive. Anyway, I don't think it will be my last crank to ship, so maybe is a good investment. I wanted to buy one where the triple crank can also fit, i guess that width and hight is very similar to the 750 but length? could somebody tell me how long the triple crank is? i don't need decimals... just roughly ;) the 750 makes 47cm

Or does somebody has a better idea? (I am not good with wood, I couldn't rely on a self made wooden box, sorry)

Thanks regards
Miguel.

I had to google Peli case. Nice but very expensive. It would be way cheaper to buy some 12mm plywood and some wood glue and make a box. You could glue plywood webs inside to reinforce the whole thing and hold the crankshaft in place.

I was once asked to make a wooden box for a 32 ft long caste iron conrod for a 4th oldest Bolton and Watt steam engine in the world, out of the Whitbread Brewery. It was 230 years old. How I was suppose to achieve that was well beyond me.We strapped some 100x 100 timbers to it for protection. It ended up craned onto and strapped to a low loader semitrailer, not on a box though.

Yup

but Australia has some pretty serious rules for shipping cranks in, in wood, I made a steel box for my engine to ship down there. The cost difference was in favour of the steel box, getting fumigation certs for wooden boxes  and getting the box fumigated to enter Australia is really expensive, and takes weeks. I would make a box in thin Galv steel sheet with a frame the sheet welds on to. If you are shipping by sea and land to Australia, weight doesnt matter, its about Volume, so it wouldn't cost anymore with a steel box. The only thing shipping by sea, means you have to get a customs agent in australia to clear the package for you, which can often add up to more than just putting the crank in airfreight. TNT is the best to ship to Aussie from spain

I ship a lot of heavy expensive equipment. Best is to double box, pack well in first box and then place that box in another with additional packing around the first box. Duplicate all shipping documents and put inside the box too.

Have had packages lost b/c outside labels damaged. Shipper will open and be able to send on its way.

This arrived yesterday after crossing Europe
Not as nice as our retired doctor but looks pretty okay :)

I'll make it balanced anyway

That one didn't even need a box St?phane. Just stick a label on it.

Paul

finally I finished the box, I am quite confident that it will survive both ways from Spain to Scotland and back! Soon I will have to make a new one for a triple... :D

Miguel.

Crankshaft length ??? I would have thought it would be the crankshaft width ....... the length of the box would need to be ascertained to fit the width of the crankshaft...
