Here's a very bizarre question about Ceriani-forked Triples:

Can anyone tell me please;
1. With the bike off the mainstand and sitting normally - Is the frame bottom tube parallel to the floor?
2. If so, what is the distance between the floor and the bottom of the frame tubes?

Thanks, Chris

Chris, I have a Ceriani '78 3cl, and I'd be glad to help, but the problem is that tyres and suspension settings are going to make all the difference. I have Bridgestone BT45s, 120/80 front (a bit big actually, I'll probably try 110/90 for the next one) and 130/80 on the back, both about 1/2 worn, currently with Laverda wheels fitted. My Suzuki wheels are quite a bit wider so the tyres are spread a bit wider and are not quite so high. I haven't dropped the Cerianis any, but I'm about to try a few mm drop, and maybe extend my rear shocks a bit (I have length-adjustable Gazis).
Without a rider, right now my bottom frame tubes do look pretty close to horizontal, I'll check better when I get home from work tomorrow. And I'll measure the height too, but unless you have the same wheel and suspension setup as me, it's kind of academic.

1. generally, yes. with the swing arm at a downward slope to the rear unladen
2. don't know as i don't have a complete one to measure

generally, the swing arm pivot to lower damper mounting point should be the same
as the swing arm pivot to the upper damper mounting point
doing so will give you a the maximum value of a gradual rising rate in the damper spring

the angled mounting of the 1200 and later 1000
is ~15" from pivot to top mount and ~16.5" from pivot to lower mount

for the std 120's
~ 16.25" and ~17"

for the vertically mounted dampers it is
~19.5" and ~16.75"

all with 14.5" extended length dampers std

you might try a 14.75" length damper while you are playing around
