Triple frame cracking?

Well…..let’s see, the original tubes managed 46 years. This, I believe, improved set up by a respected frame builder mate of mine, should hopefully last as long. I think it is more than just an ‘elegant’ solution compared to some of the ‘fuck me that’s ugly’ set ups I’ve seen, which admittedly may outlive my repair. However, if mine fails in the next 44 years ( 2 years of hard riding so far ) I will swallow my pride and admit to everyone on this forum you two boys were right and I should of listened to you. 😀😉
 
My 3C frame suffered multiple fractures after repairs over the course of 3 years, until I finally did it properly.

These frames weren't designed for the fierce brakes and sticky tyres we have nowadays. I've always been a late braker and placed my emphasis on brakes and tyres, the frame had to suffer.

Ahh, the dilemma of a cracked frame, what do you do when you are in a 1980 far-off location (Bolivia) and you spot the fine wrinkles in the paint and the cracks forming above the wrinkles? Who do you trust to do the repairs? I soldiered on another 4000 miles, keeping a keen eye on the frame tubes' status, until reaching the port of Antofagasta in Chile, where I found a full-service machine shop, welding service. The 3 into 1 exhaust, which was becoming very flattened, was cut and repaired again, and the frame tube cracks were welded with a plate welded in place to provide structural support to the tubing. Headstock bracing was later applied a year or so later in California.
Admittedly, the bike was used and punished way beyond its intended purpose, but it got the job done.
