I?ve been lurking on this forum for a few years, but I don?t write often.
Too much time on my hands because of the Covid lockdown got me wondering if anyone can help me trace the history of my ?73 SF1, serial 12633. I?m trying to find out if it might have been a bike that was once raced at Mosport in Ontario Canada back in 1973.
I bought it in 1987 from a chap in Aylmer Quebec Canada (now part of the greater Gatineau). It had been spray painted black, but the paint under the tank and behind the side panels was kind of light yellowy gold, colour I remember seeing on some of the 1972 SFs we sold when I worked at K C Cycle Ltd in Ottawa Ontario Canada from 1972 to 1974.
A bit of background: A silver SF1 was purchased from our shop in 1973 & was later stolen from its owner. After the insurance payout our shop bought it from the insurance company. They revamped it and went on to race it in a 24-hour event at Mosport. Did not win but finished the race. It was then sold to one of shop employees, Bob (I don?t like mentioning last names without permission)
About 5 years later my brother and I saw an ad listing two Laverda 750s for sale. Turns out Bob was the seller. He had both the silver ?73 and a yellowy gold ?72. Seeing that both bikes were completely dismantled and in his basement, we passed.
I am wondering if mine could be the ?73 on which the gas tank & panels from the ?72 would have been installed.
Does anyone out there have any information that could help me confirm or disprove this? Heck, maybe Bob is also a member of this forum?
Thanks in advance.
Joe
PS - it is now painted purple, but that' another story!
