twin clutch cable replacement

Anyone have any good tips/tricks for installing the clutch cable end to the actuating arm? I'm finding it truly hateful, and thinking it shouldn't be this finicky. Take the cover off? Hook it to the clevis and install using the pin? Put the whole thing into a truck and drive across the country for Wolfgang?

Don't connect the handlebar lever.
Screw the bottom aduster fully in.
Support the stirrup (17 on the diagram below) from behind, with a thin bladed screwdriver.



Adjust the cable to line the cable end with the gap in the front of the stirrup.
Push bottom cable end in, with another thin bladed screwdriver.
Pull the handlebar end nipple to secure the cable end, in the stirrup.
Fit top nipple to the handlebar lever.
Take up the slack with the bottom adjuster.
Fine tune with the clutch lever adjuster.
Job's a good un.

follow the Socks instructions, if there still isn't enough slack to fit the nipple to the handlebar lever get someone to push on the bottom lever with a broom handle via the hole in the cover. Backing off all the adjusters should allow enough free play to fit though.

Take the clevis out and make sure the nipple fits through the slot. I've sometimes found they are a little oversized and won't fit through the clevis slot and need a little touch with a file. Otherwise it's as per the sock, fit the bottom first, lever end after. With plenty of freeplay and clearing the slot in the clevis it should just pop in with a bit of judicious twiddling.

Early slots, as in early GT or S are narrower and standard cable nipples won't fit.
