Twisted Monty

Fantastic, Keith.
I have wondered for ages why it had never been done with the 500, and now it has.
The factory could have gone that route and kept things alive I?m sure. I know it was mentioned to them but they didn?t believe it.
Well done.

Lovely, now Rob can see what's keeping him waiting. But mate, your shuffling about like an old boy...you need some spring in yer step. All work and no play?? :-*

I'm sort of scratching my head and thinking "Why?"

For the 750, I understand. Having owned and run an 850cc "twisted" SF3 [1], and owning an SF and SF1, I think I know what a difference it makes.

But the 180 degree Monty / Alpino isn't intrusively vibrationary (is this a word?) even without the balance shaft and can be smooth as silk with the balancer (I had two - one with, one without).

So....why?

[1] Granted, I only got this done because I was p*ssed off with the damned thing holing pistons. But TBH, when I bought the small port SF, I realised that the SF<1-2-3> problem was simply trying to get too much out of the design. The small port 750s are lovely.

If Laverda had sold all of their parallel twins like this as standard maybe they'd still be here?

It is rumoured the Zane factory had both a Yamaha TDM and TRX for evaluation.  Apparently nobody there realised the advantages and potential of the 270? set up, could have given the shitheaps new models a new lease of life (if they  had managed to iron out the production issues as well).

Because I can  :-*

Thanks for all the positive comments. Will keep you posted as to how it performs on the road.

who is going to be the first to build an a 2232cc air cooled Laverda V6  or a 1500cc water cooled  Laverda V4 ?
CLEM

Keith,

You will let me have it back when you've finished it?

As for the question why, well why not? It sounds fantastic (less harsh), hopefully smoother and I always regretted not doing it to my 750 in the 90's. I thought (foolishly) that it would be less expensive doing a 500 as you are starting with a lower entry cost.

The only draw back is if my wife finds out how much it's cost I'm a dead or divorced man!

Twisted little twin all done....

Performs well on the road, nice and smooth. Off to the dyno next to doodle about with jetting and valve timing.
