Checked date codes of my pirelli phantoms 2/98 and 3/78, so pretty old, an almost retro look. Not a very soft compound now.
Bummer, I feel your pain SteveI just got a set of Pirelli diablo something or others (modern sizes) for a friend's bike. I was surprised and depressed to find - after purchase - that they're made in China.
This is why they are called DiabloI just got a set of Pirelli diablo something or others (modern sizes) for a friend's bike. I was surprised and depressed to find - after purchase - that they're made in China.
Tread down the middle, bald on the sides..I put Pirelli Gordons on my freshly restored SF2 in 1991. Horrible things.
Made in Brazil as well.

Quite a few people, including me, raced using Gordons. So I don’t think they were that bad and lasted a lot longer than Phantoms.I put Pirelli Gordons on my freshly restored SF2 in 1991. Horrible things.

A few years back if you were offered tyres like those or ‘Japlops’ you would run a mile.Just checked the place or origin for the Bridgestones BT46 I am running, made in Japan, whew![]()
I know, tyres are a personal thing.Quite a few people, including me, raced using Gordons. So I don’t think they were that bad and lasted a lot longer than Phantoms.
And a good race/track tyre is not always a good road tyre. SF3 came to Australia with 4.00 Gordons front and rear, steered awfully slow for me.I know, tyres are a personal thing.
