UK spec headlamp lens/reflector wanted

Hi all, I'm trying to get a restored 75 Jarama through the vehicle test and it's failed on
having a Euro spec right hand dip headlamp.

I need a UK spec left hand dip one... anyone got any leads on a possible supplier??

Gowanlocks in Sydney had them, bloody expensive at $400oz. Another local bloke has them as well but I better not say who.

Hi Keith,
Sounds to me like the tester is being a bit of a jobsworth - usually they'll accept (or even fix it for you) a carefully placed piece of sticky tape on the glass.
Depends how 'original' you want it to be, but a Ducati Monster headlight will do the business very well (and only the rivet counters will notice!)

Sounds to me like the tester is being a bit of a jobsworth - usually they'll accept (or even fix it for you) a carefully placed piece of sticky tape on the glass.
Depends how 'original' you want it to be, but a Ducati Monster headlight will do the business very well (and only the rivet counters will notice!)

Same here. When I used to put her in for mot's the tester would put a couple of strips of insulating tape on it and usually said " I don't suppose that will be on there for long "

The Manx vehicle test (done once when a vehicle is put on the road, we don't have an annual MoT) is like a savage MoT on steroids, anything that might be an "advisory" on an moT is likely to be a fail here.

Look for a UK lens for a 1970 to 80s air cooled twin.
Do yourself a favour and buy a new rubber gasket at the same time.
I don't know what their postal rates are to the island.

I, initially, taped the right-hand dip lens, with which it was originally supplied, in the UK. I later painted the inside of the lens.
Finally got round to fitting a left hand dip lens, bought new from a BMW Supplier, after forty plus years.
Never had a problem getting MOT's, perhaps it might be worth trying another Tester?

Unfortunately we don’t have the choice of going to a different tester, we only have one, IOM GOV test centre. We absolutely love monopolies over here..

A few years ago they would cut you a bit of slack with wrongly dipped headlamps, km speedos, ‘slightly‘ loud exhaust etc but these days a bit of tape, stick on numbers on the clock face, etc won’t get you very far. Even the slightest oil weep and you could find yourself facing a retest.
However, on the plus side, once the test is passed, as long as you tax the vehicle at least once every couple of years, you never need to have another.
