unsprung weight.

Great to see you absorbing the flack SF.....its got everyone off my back for a couple of days  :D :D

Don't fret about forum hazing, I've been a sacrificial lamb for years in this forum and probably lend myself to being one but have never let it get under my skin because I hold my own simply because I've always been a Motorcyclists and Laverda Forum Members, no matter how intimidating or in search of something actually respects your Motorcycling Experience.

Geez! I'm a 67 year old Irish Northern Ontario Canadian Breganze 750 SF rider, bought new, and it hasn't killed me yet. It's dependable, FAST and I've won a lot of races with it over the years - That's why I find a thread entitled "unsprung weight" irresistible to participate in.

As Chrisk said "You don't have to be wary of me Ron, I'm actually a nice bloke.  :D"

Probably because he likes my logic but doesn't want to experience the wrath of my retort - LOL

Eventually we will have to hand down our Breganze's as they will out live us - I`m just a caretaker - Hang in there Paddy, that is assuming your Breganze doesn't kill you.

It's my Ireland and now you know why I'm Un-Sprung and Bottomed Out - ROLF!

Example of Un-Sprung Weight - Although some 45 years old in design, it's still considered by to days standards to be strong, light, efficient and Exotic.

Very little Un-Sprung Weight in this Example considering we have to account for the swing arm, hub carrier and chain but theres NO rim, brakes or tire.

I doubt whether the Breganze 750SF has much more the 35lbs of Un-Sprung weight.

I bet the wheels weight more than 35lbs alone. :D

Ok I stretched it but more like 20 lbs per Rim & Tire.

I've never weighed it but can testify an SF handles more like a Dirt Bike under 40 mph Vs a Cafe Racer above 80 mph.

You weigh it and report back. I bet I'm closer ;o)

If I ran a Zener Diode to eliminated the Starter, Battery and Generator to reduce Sprung Weight - Then I'm a Push Starter without a Kick Start. Why do think the SFC 750 has that 1 1/8th" air socket hole in the cover over the Starter Clutch if not to save 40 lbs of Sprung Weight and that's one reason why I run a light 2 into 1 Exhaust with an Electric Start just for the sake of Convince Vs Performance irregardless the SF is a notorious Battery Killer.

I've never had a battery last me  more then 3 seasons on my SF - Oh Hum! Guess I'm getting off topic.

Hell Paddy over 1100 hits on this topic within God's Forsaken Laverda Forums - Come on now - ROLF

Weight , sprung and unsprung is often overlooked particularly power to weight..Its always been far cheaper to shed weight than gain power but people often spend 1000's on power and then drag a load of surplus weight around especially in cars.. I'm not surprised this thread has 1100 hits, its a topic that a lot of people would quite like to understand a bit better IMHO. ;)
