Update on Vinces Engine Dramas

Vince,

your next LAV purchase must be a spell checker !!  My head aches after reading your longer posts.

Have gone into archive and will put everything together for a JOTTINGS article.
How about you e-mail me a recent photo ?  If you don't have one, next time I'm back in SYD I'll phone and arrange to take some. How does North Head followed by a coffee at Manly sound ?  Absolutely fantastic place for photos with harbour and city in background

:D

You have no idea how bad it is. The problem is that the students don't see anything wrong with inventing words as they go along. They really get very upset at being failed for words like "ftyacd" for fatty acid, "clstrl" for cholesterol, "nzym" for enzyme. Even the scientific journals where scientists publish research results are finding it necessary to send out editorial statements about the need for correct spelling and grammar; people with PhDs are now using text speech in their research results.
I'm making my stand, but I feel isolated at times. The kids just don't accept that there is such a thing as the right way. The easy way is always best.

Ken there is a doco on the history of English done by some pom who's name escapes me,Melvin Brag, anyway the point was how it is constantly changing.I dint have a problem with the change BUT at its core there should be an exchange of information, how does that work if you have to stop and explain every new,how this one,BUZZ word.LOL,BTW,RATFLMAO and it makes you feel like a dick having to ask and I think thats the point.Being a member of the club, speaking of spell checkers my email setup is Outlook Express and I it has on my computer is a French dictionary,I have had it checked out, without buying a new Windows there is no fix,its a conspiracy to bring back French as the world language.

So not quite the world language then, and Marcel Marceau's language is universal (Mr Bean, Benny Hill and so on)

Was French ever the world's language? A genuine question.
Yes, if:
a) You believe there was ever a time when the world = Europe  :P.  It was the European lingua franca and language of diplomacy and culture for a couple of centuries (mid 17th to early 20th).

b) You think that a world language is one that is used as a means of communication between people from different nations.  In which case, it can still claim to be a world language, being spoken in around 35 countries and by somewhere between 200-500 million people as a first, second or foreign language (vast discrepancy in the figures depends on who you believe ...)

Just my two pen'nurth centimes worth.

I know it is A world language.
I was asking if it had ever been THE world language.
For sure it is a language of culture.

I've got junior Doctors who can't spell.
I'm told I'm not supposed to mark them on their spelling.
It would appear that modern English isn't backwards compatible.

In Outlook, go to the "File" tab, click "Options". In the Outlook Options menu, click on "Language". It'll open up a box in which you can set the editing/proofing language. If it has French (or no language) set in there, go to the "Add additional editing language" pull down menu and select "English (Australia)".
If English (Australia) is already there, it may not be set as the default language. Just highlight it and click the "Set as Default" button. If there are other languages loaded that you don't want, you can delete them.

Cheers,
Cam

PS: The above refers to Windows 7, MS Office Suite 2010. If you have earlier versions the procedure might be a little different, but the option should still be there.

Cam I am using Outlook Express, the bloke who built my computer also only has a french dictionary in his copy of Windows XP outlook express and its in tools bit with on other option in the tag,I am thinking I have a cloned copy, don't like the full outlook, way to many options.

Sorry Vince, I missed the "Express" bit. I'm not familiar with Express - looked at it once and didn't like it. Couldn't work out how to make it do what I wanted, which I suppose is what you're finding.

Cheers,
Cam

Finally got the 168main jets to suit the Kehan CV carbs I am using, thats what the Dino bloke said would keep he topend speed and clean up the mid range.I had 2 170s and a 175 in the middle and that fattened up the midrange to much, with the big jets I was getting 45 imperial MPG,today in extreme temperatures, must have been close to 40c I did a 200k ride and got 52mpg.Thats going relatively hard considering how hot it was.For the locals I finally rediscovered the back way to Wyong, great bit of back country road off the Wollomi Rd
