Would these eliminate the need to remember to turn taps off? I know you'd lose the reserve, all 11 miles of it.... Is this the correct thread for an RGS ie 16 X 1 mm?

Reading the forums on them it appears they were used on a lot of the big jap bikes including kwaka 900/1000 and CBXs and a swag of other bikes after that. Appears to be a California environment thing. The old ones had an overide tap like ours which was prime, ie overide the vacuum, run ie the vacuum determins if petrol gets throug or not which is where you would normally run it and reserve. The Prime position is used to initially fill the carbs after a rebuild/clean etc.

Seems they have caused some reliability problems so many owners have switched to manuals one.

I'm so used to NOT having to worry about the taps (beemer) I keep forgetting!

The trick is to put a vacuum petcock on one side of the tank and leave the normal petcock on the other side. That way you have the normal on-off-reserve petcock that can be used as a primer and reserve, but normal running is on the vacuum petcock. That's how my bevel Ducati is set up and it works OK.
