Valve clearances

I havent bought any shims for a long long time, I just chase the very slightly closing gap by the same method as below - diamond lstone or wet and dry + WD40 on glass. Just keep turning the shim under your finger to keep the faces parallel. It takes time, but much quicker than buying new ones, all in.

This is another example why we need a reference section.
Oil, tyres, torque settings etc-
Rob doesn't like wiki as we had previously but I do think a read only section with collective wisdom would save a LOT of repeat questions.

Just found a thread by Piet back in 2014 concerning torque values for the triple cam block studs via the Search function at the top of the page.  Should have checked there first before posting my question.  my apologies.

I wasn't getting at you. I really think a reference section would be a good idea.

"The cams bear on the buckets, not the shims. So the shims only need to withstand pressure, not the sliding wear from cam contact."
Great point-I stand corrected-see, the forum works!
+2 on a tech data section perhaps in How to/hints and tips-

That would a great idea, the one I have trouble remembering and finding was Keith's tips for adjusting Andy's Primary chain. There wouldn't need to be much maybe General Maintenance , Torque figures ,Tyre pressures, Checking battery charge, cannot think of anything else?

Most of the info is readily available on JLO's site, Laverdamania, in the technical section.

I used the search facility to find torque setting for the cam blocks, found a couple of different opinions.
22/32 Nm and 25/35 Nm, so the search function is not always difinitive.
I wont bother with searching cam chain tension.

Cam chain tension; 1cm up/down between the cam sprockets with the centre cylinder at TDC, might be different for a 180.

It's been awhile! there should be a position when the inlet cam doesn't have and valve tension, that is where I set it 5mm up and down. Also the position when removing the inlet cam.

I think that is with No1 at TDC.
I have down loaded a factory manual and have the Green Book. Most say they are full of errors.
This is why it would be good to have a technical section here, there is a variance of info out there.

9mm nuts: 25 ft/lbs
8mm nuts: 18 ft/lbs

Yep, 1cm of total play with the centre cylinder at TDC works for the 180 too
