But the factory Fastback looks so good! Did people just use the Roadsters to modify with Dunstall fiberglass? Or were the Fastbacks unwanted back then in the UK?

It'd be a dull world if we all liked the same things and the queues/prices, if we did, would be stupidly high.
When I was looking for my first new big bike, I was likely to go down the Triumph road but, in '73 all the new Triumphs (except the Hurricane, tank too small. Price, £895, way too high) looked like shit.
My route, therefore was directed to a Norton Commando. All of the iterations looked good, except the Fastback which, IMO, is literally butt ugly.
It probably helped that Norton had crack advertising. I even liked the Hi-Rider, when I, finally, looked at the bike.
Well, we do. We all like orange Jotas and the prices are stupidly high.

I was looking for a sorted Norton for years but grabbed a 750SF2 instead and I,m glad I did- it’s much more elegant w better brakes and charisma- but I still like Nortons

I have had a Norton fastback commando for 30 years. Parts availability is much better than a Laverda.
Can you build an entire motor out of all new parts for a Laverda? No!
Well a commando motor you can, Even new cylinder heads are being made now.
And every bad design idea Norton had has been fixed by modern parts so they are much more reliable than when they were new. And modified, they can be very fast.
But......................................................... I like riding my 3CL more than my Norton.

Problem with British bike re manufactured parts nowadays is quality. A restorer friend of mine shuns them.
