Water pump seal replacement Formula

Location
Cotwolds
I want to replace the seals in my water pump on my Formula - trying to work out if I can do this by just taking the water pump outer casting off - or have I got to take the whole lhs casing off - drain the oil , remove the PK rotor , gear linkage etc - there is a coolant leak from the leak off port on the outside of the water pump casting

Adam, Speaking from experience I believe you have to take the whole lot off to gain access to the inner and outer seals.

Mmm you could be right 😳 need to find one in Uk - bearings and seals can be got - need to get the vernier out
All very standard stuff.
For the circlips, buy a box of assorted sizes, it'll last you a lifetime.

I've done that along with a box of Woodruff keys.

What are those shiny marks on the shaft?

I wish I could remember the details of the incident with the local here and his Zane water pump seal. At least I can remember his name, it is Bobby C. From what I can, his seal went and the water mixed with the oil, and maybe the engine locked up, spitting him off the bike. All very ugly at the time and pretty much destroying the bike. From memory, he then moved to Queensland.

There are two seals - one protects the first bearing from the water - then there is a void that has the vent hole in it which is where the fluid appears if the seal has failed - the second seal protects the second bearing I guess although I can’t quite remember which way round it goes. 😳
