Welsh Classic Festival at Anglesey

Last weekend was the two day Welsh Classic Bike Festival at Anglesey organised by Classic Bike track days, and it was glorious. There were four "grades" to the track sessions, as well as a Race bike session with star riders, and special bike club parades. Laverda were well represented in all sessions.

The event was organised brilliantly and the standard and courtesy of the attendees was exemplary. No maniacs, no dive bombing, and plenty of space and respect given to other track users. The weather held out and the sun shone, with only one short shower during a session that I wasn't in, so all was good. Good food, great beer, and a very average cover band playing in the marquee made the saturday night.

We had Dave Fitzpatrick out on his beautifully prepared Montjuic race bike for the first time in a few years, running round in the race bike parade along with Steve Parish on an FZ750 and Spike Edwards on an RC45. There was a lovely green 3CL that went out in the road bike parade that made a beautiful sound in between the screaming two strokes (my petition to get them banned was rejected ....). BRT racing had their usual stable on show and their early Mk1 Monty was looking great after having new pistons and rings, and it shared the end garage with a lovely formula 500 that was being ridden with some brio in the under 600 intermediate class.

I was out on the SFC replica in the over 600 inters but my swing arm woes from Mallory continued and the new pivot bolt wasn't enough to secure the swing arm properly and after the second session it started to wobble on the shaft and by the third session it got the stage of being dangerous so I put her away Saturday night.

All in all a brilliant weekend, and if you ever get the chance to to a CBTD event, go for it.
