What are the current choices for a 180 exhaust system?

It has become time to replace the factory exhaust system on my 1200TS (rusting away). I have Keihan on the 3CL, Wolfgang supplied system (German??) on the SFC and BUB on the RGS. All installed many years ago. The 1200TS is my only Laverda still with the factory system.

So for a series 2 180 what are my choices? Stainless is nice but the Keihan collector tends to crack after a few years.

Are you wanting to switch to something louder, or are your cans shot? Jota replica cans from Malcolm Cox (UK) might be an obvious choice. Wolfgang might even have those. There's a stock set of Lafranconi's on Ebay currently. NOS for a thousand and change. In Wisconsin. Have the seams. Not pretty.
I have a pair of Bub that came off the RGS and would possibly fit. In CA.

I almost hesitate to say it, but Armour in the UK do them too!

Although their website is a bit strange as it fools you into thinking that 650cc is the maximum capacity for their exhausts.
The the down tubes have an extra bend for some reason, but all fits ok!
The main issue I have discovered with Armour is their method of clamping the silencer to collector with welded lugs. the thin split between the lugs acts as a stress raiser and tends to crack with age, so if I ever bought new silencers I would grind the welded lugs off and soften the split with a circular hole at the end, then use clamps - much better idea!
The attachment from down pipes to collector is the same with lugs, but for some strange reason they don't crack.

Stainless seems to work-harden after a few years with heat cycles, so more prone to cracking!

Malcolm Cox's chromed pipes are apparently a work of art and fashioned from the original pattern, so I might be tempted with them.

I have several pairs of Cox's Jota pipes and they are great, nothing but good things to say.
Look and sound great.

I have used a stainless system on TOG (1200TS) for many, many years, none of it was new, the silencers were accident damaged from two bikes and donated by ralph the Norfolk fungus face, so I don't know the make, but the collector did fracture a few times, until I cut the main flattened 50mm tube, and re-fitted the whole exhaust, to find about a 25mm gap where I had made the cut, this was duly "filled in" and I have never had a fracture since, that is until the entry sockets on the silencers wore so thin, that they too started to split, my cure for that was to cut them off, make up some new ones, and at different angles to the stock shape, and now I don't ever have the chain drag on the RH silencer or the brake pedal foul on the left.

Two and half years ago I did my first Colmbres rally in Northern Spain, and because there was a lot of slow country lane riding, I felt the need for a bit more silence in the "silencers" so I fitted a very good pair of Lanfranconis, and the music was much suppressed, but so was the horsepower, motorway work getting to and from the ferry, both sides of the water was tedious to say the least, although in fairness I did no re-jetting at all, back home they went back on the shelf!

The Jota pipes I have got from Malcom are well manufactured but loud...very loud.
The end pipe is bigger and shorter than in my other Jota pipes.
May be you should ask whether he can offer different types.

There are various sources, stainless steel or chrome.
I have sourced in Canada, Germany and UK (various).
Some are better than others.

Whatever is chosen - look on the INSIDE before fitting. Some tube fit-ups are horrendous, with raw edges poking about into the gas flow. I have never seen a set that didn't need a degree of internal fettling.

Main problem with Armours is that they seem to have problems welding stainless and they don't respond to mails.
The flange on my 750 pipes didn't last 1000 km before separating from the pipe and they never answered my emails.

Silencers are ok at least on the 750, they're straight.

Any exhaust change demands a work out change with your Carb Jets (Particularly the main Jet) - Least you crap your pistons.
The more you free flow or open the pipes enrich the main jet accordingly.
