Whitworth tools

I gave all mine away, didnt want to be tempted to go there again. My favourite tool was an expencive 6 inch fine thread shifting spanner. AF did my head in.

Google searching Whitworth sockets and spanners UK gives quite a variety of options, new.

I’ve got the full set of Whitworth when I wrench my Norton Commando. Spanish made Acesa, really good stuff actually . Got them 20 yrs ago from local British supplier Walridge Motors, in Ontario. I just went onto the Walridge Motors website and they don’t have that make anymore, only King Dick, and “oriental”. Seems Acesa was taken over by the Spanish SNA Europe group .
King Dick is great stuff as well.
 
I went through this when I got the Velo from Dad, not all that many tool brands still make them. I ended up with a 3/8 drive socket set from Koken, and a spanner set from Elora - both lovely quality and bought online.
I think all the whitworth, BSF and cycle thread fasteners all used the WW head sizes, but the Velo also has some BA in the smaller sizes, which is another set of spanners as well.
The joys of old pommy bikes.... :D

A look around has found some nice Koken hexagonal sockets of which I'll take a short and a long set.
Combination spanners are proving more difficult to find apart from the Elora ones which are very expensive. Cheaper ones will do.
Germany is an excellent source of tool suppliers.
Taxes are discouraging for a purchase in the UK particularly as UK suppliers tend to charge the VAT which they should deduct, so I've l've learnt to avoid purchasing in the UK if there are other solutions.
Two days ago I had to fork out maybe 20% of the purchase price for a pair of Vincent manual reprints.
I'll wait until the bike is home before buying the tools since it has been rebuilt in the past and I need to be sure that the heads are still Whitworth.

I seem to recall I got my Elora set quite reasonably priced from some online location, a quick look now only finds them considerably more. Later on I found that a couple of local tool shops actually stocked a WW set by Eurotech (who are of course from Taiwan...), which are nice quality and what I consider reasonably priced, an online seller has them now at aud$127 (~75eur) for a set of nine:

Hi Steve,
Thanks to you, I've found sets of Koken sockets, long and short, and a 3/8th ratchet which I don't have, in Germany. So no customs duty.
Germany is a first class supplier of tools.
I've more or less banned the UK from my source of suppliers.
I also avoid Amazon, not my kind of world.
The Elora spanners are lovely but very expensive so I'll make do with something of lesser quality no doubt.

BGS is a german tool brand that offers a pretty decent quality at mainly budget pricing. Undoubtedly mainly sourced from far-east, definitely not top pro-quality but more than ample for occasional DIYer use. Their assortment is almost limitless, even for odd-ball Whitworth stuff and specialist maintenance tools. I often find myself ending up in one of their outlets when searching for stuff I'll only ever use once every blue moon...
