It is possible that Piet was mercilessly overtaken by such an Aero-Caproni Capriolo rocket when he took part in the 2015 Milano-Taranto race.
Of course he didn't forget that!

Nah, the Caproni isn't very quick, no match for a Tourismo Lav.  Nicely engineered though, guess building planes is a good starting point for a bike manufacturer.

The design of this engine is very unusual - a longitudinally installed crankshaft was not often combined with a transversely installed transmission. Also the valve control in it's layout is rare:

This shows how much manufacturers were looking for different concepts at that time. Nowadays, where more financial analysts than engineers have their say, those unusual concepts wouldn't have much chances to be followed up on for to long.

By contrast, today's engine and vehicle construction is not very imaginative in comparison, you could say, very standardized ...

Face cams, found also in  brit Chater-Lea engines.  They were a favourite of Richard K?chen, german engine designer that created quite a few flops...

There's a German saying 'bout K?chen as engine constructor, saying as of the 7Ks engines. Translated into English this would read as "K?chens constructions do not know complete cooling!"
