wiring help 1978 triple

I'm trying to sort out a hard starter. I haven't had the bike long and someone has had a go before me. A brown wire leaving the voltage regulator has been chopped. A green wire adjacent to the VR with a circle connector is hanging free. And a black wire with a yellow stripe and a bullet connector is dangling there too. Could someone identify these wires and tell me how they should connect?

Also a brown wire in a black sheath is dangling unattached close to the +ve battery terminal. Should it attach there? (I'm used to brown signifying Earth)

Is there a colour wiring diagram out there anywhere?

Oh boy, here's some weired stuff. I'm looking at the greenbook (pg 176) and also the parts catalogue of Laverda Paradies (pg 140).
The regulator on my bike looks very similar to part 49-69 (LP catalogue) however there are differences.

The regulator in the wiring diagram (Greenbook) supports wires: white, yellow, yellow/black, green, blue/red, black x 2.

On my bike I have black/yellow, yellow x2, brown, white/red.

Ie different colours and two wires too few.

I'm stumped on where to go next. How to positively identify the electrical system? Any suggestions. Help much appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Have a look through the wiring loom. Any connections that look home made?
A 1978 triple should have originally had a CDI unit ignition system (3 x mini coils and a combined black box under the tank.
If this is so then you are looking at the wrong wiring diagram.
The 1978 loom had a small r/r bolted on the right side under the tool tray and had fewer wires than the later (BTZ ignition) triples. The BTZ type was introduced in the 1979 model year.
Have a look and see which type you have and then look for the correct wiring diagram in the book, there are several.
Sounds like someone has fitted the wrong r/r and given up trying to connect the wires to it.

Here's a photo from a 79 Jota (BTZ systen). May be of help depending what system you are using.
