wiring

Gt was running beautifully until I took the engine off. (tapping in the head). Ok I can use it for wiring the Sf. Sf has been parted out for decades. Grn Bk has wiring color code for the Sf Bosch headlamp. Is the color code the same on the GT?

I imagine the original loom would be.
Red = + battery
Blue = + coils
Grey = brake light switches
Black = earth

+ a few specifics

Wiring stays untouched on 15538. I didn't quite word it right on my post & it could confuse. Ok I have 2 & 1/2 Laverdas. 15538, 8787, & 1/2 of 17580 w/ engine complete.. Engine 17580 (w/ lesser head) goes on 15538 frame temporarily so I can ride. And I'll have plenty of time for 15538 head rebuild & more. 8787 is in restoration. The other headlamp that came off 8787 decades ago goes back on 8787. but it is going to need some parts, splicing...  I bought some Lucas switches I believe from a Triumph for 8787. These are in better shape and click the same. then 8787 gets completely restored. This is where the other Bosch headlamp is going. Half way into restoration on 8787 but it is taking forever!!! Hope this makes it clearer for avid Laverda enthusiasts. Will need all the advice I can get.

Lucas switches from Triumph have different internal connections to Lucas switches from Laverda.
Simple enough to modify as its a case of changing a soldered cable end from a used connection to an unused one, but for the life of me I cannot recall more than that.
Someone will.

So different internal connections on the Lucas switches. Triumph to Laverda. Guess U mean the color codes are different where they would meet. I am not using blinkers. So Kill switch, horn & brights only to be wired. I can follow pattern on the Gt but don't want to take the headlamp lens off yet. Want to get engine 17580 1st. Make sure its running good. Then I can get to the Gt head & wiring to the sf.

I would suggest you have a look at the Green Book, check your existing wiring loom(s) against the schemes shown and proceed from there.
The earlier 750's have much simpler wiring than the later bikes. They also have differing equipment in places such as the headlight switch and the handlebar switches as you know.
I would suggest there is a world of difference  between the *8---* bike and the later *15----* and *17---* bikes based on my experiences of 69GT and S, 70SF, 73SF1, 74 and 75SF2's and 76SF3's

Personally I would be loath to follow an old wiring loom without checking it matches a wiring diagram - firstly point to point using a multi meter, then wire colours.  It's amazing what you can find in an original loom, let alone one that has been 'modified'.  Even in original looms I have found wires spliced, so differing sheath colours at the end of the same length of cable/wire.

Patience, small multi meter, set of coloured pencils and several photo copies of each scheme is a good way to start IMHO.

With regard to the Lucas switches, you may find they are wired differently, not just sheath colours for a Triumph as against a LAV.  Easy to sort out using the multi meter to chase thru the connections against the switch positions.

A bottle of red wine is an enjoyable companion in all of the above
