I looked after an FZR600 here for four seasons of post classic racing. Very successful too, But the fitting of a 17 on the rear made all the difference.I’ve experienced quite a few scary moments over the years but so far managed to avoid crashing following the onset of a tank slapper. The worst bike I rode/raced for shaking its head was a FZR600. It was flighty enough with a steering damper fitted, but without one virtually impossible to ride fast.
The FZR family are tyre sensitive. I've seen a couple of examples of FZR1000's prepped for postie racing But on the wrong tyres they hurt people.
I had an example a couple of seasons back. Old mate had a very good GSXR1000 - and did a tyre deal for the season. First time out on the new rubber and it wouldn't even go in a straight line. Very scary. He traded the tyres off to a competitor and bought another brand out of his own pocket.
Some of the current crop of track day/road tyres are biased for turning over stability. It's a trade-off and you can only find out if it suits your bike by trying them.
Here you go Andy - last year we ran at the Burt Munro. 3rd year in a row we won at Wyndham street circuit. Note the circuit breaking up.....
Don't be fooled by the stock fairings. It's got everything..FCR's , CR box, cams, Yosh pipe etc etc .....a sleeper.
