Yet again help.

I have again been asked for chains and although I know the 1000 3C the other 2 I need help on.

It is for primary, cam and rear for the following 2 bikes, 650 (1969) and a 750 SF3 (1974).

I would imagine the 750 is the Zane so I think I know those but help is welcome to make sure and also identify the 650.

Thanks guys

Andy

Zane bikes were made in the '90s.
These are old ones Andy.
Can't help with sizes though, sorry.

Hi, Andy.
They are Breganze Twins.
For all 750s (750S, GT, SF, SF1-3, SFC):
Primary is the same as on Triples.
Rear is 530 with 106 links.
Cam chain is 3/8 x 7/32 pitch 43 +chain link.

I suppose 650 would be the same but not absolutely sure on it.

The earliest twins had slightly shorter swingarms, hence the shorter drive chain.

The shorter swinger can be identified by the missing crossbar near the pivot.

Andy, your two bikes will require the same chains except for the final drive.

Brad I should have done a better job as it is not 3/8  x  1/4 duplex it is 3/8  x  7/32. On the duplex cam chains.

Also it is logo'd with JWIS as this stood for Joh Winklhofer and Son. A nice and logical logo. Some time later a marketing expert who was paid loads of money decide as the J was pronounced eeee (i) it should be spealt phonetically. Bad move as it happens because the newest Winlkhofer in charge is a lovely guy called Johannes hence taking us back to sqaure one.

Andy,

The 4-valvers from which the Zane engines evolved all had the wired link.  Same chain, just a pair of links more for the Zane 750 as opposed to the Breganze 4-valvers (500 and 600).  Just to give you a headache, Zane 650 has the same chain as 500/600...  You really only need to differentiate between air- or liquid-cooled 4 -valvers, the liquid-cooled having the longer chain of the two.

Breganze 2-valve 750 (650 also, only a handful built in 1968(?))has a duplex timing chain.

Piet, Any idea why the liquid cooled bikes use a longer chain? Deeper head casting perhaps?

The cams are actually closer together, slimmer included valve angle.

The steeper inlet ports need to have the cams higher up in the head... the whole heap of crap is about 4cm taller than the air-cooled engines!
