Recieved a 500 crank at OCT from up north, thought it might spark a bit of interest.  Nice example of mechanical antipathy...   
Apparently it ran to the very end.

All nice and shiny and smooth again.

it would be lovely and quiet on gear oil mixed with porridge oats,
oh yes back in the day my Mini Cooper came like that, and the crank broke, part by seizure part by driven rotation of the gearbox end, oh the joys of being young and affluent (temporarily) in 1969. I hated the small car anyway and bought a 3.4 MKII Jag to replace it.
