They're passing less frequently here. Due to either staff off work or to limit contact between them.

I have no time to get bored! In fact I'm so busy organising the household, cooking, cleaning, washing, creating or maintaining the garden and veggie patch, finding safe places to walk the dog ... and yes, shopping ... that my SFQ sits waiting in the shed for me to finish off the next task. I've had visions of stealing countless hours out there getting it done - the reality ... >:(

I managed a bicycle ride today - while we are allowed to exercise (it IS pretty much self-isolation on lonely bike paths). Being very careful not to have a mishap and burden the med system. A lot of people still walk here, some as families of 3 or 4, others as couples, many solo. Plenty of space when passing.
 
Things are a bit slow now I have temporarily finished decorating.
My wife was really looking forward to meeting 'Vlad', our parcel delivery driver arriving soon.
She had visions of a 6'7" Russian giant, able to severe a human head with one swish of his sword!

Alas! Vlad turned out to be a little guy, probably able to just about severe a weasels head with one swish of the sword!
She was a bit crestfallen.
 
I'm filling my time and emptying my wallet by putting a water pump and supercharger on my Mini. Once the front end is off it's pretty easy!
Those crunchy rattle noises are
expensive!
 
Waiting for my crankcase to be welded, I went through my toolboxes and found all the odd-sized rusty Allen keys and wire-buffed the rust off. I sorted them as metric and inch and then sorted by size, topped up all the sets of keys that were missing the 5 and 6 mm keys, and finally put the remaining small ones in 50 mL centrifuge tubes.
Buggared if I know where I'm going to put them  :D :D.

Just gave me an idea ....... I have a tray full of assorted hardware. I think that I shall sort and size them.

I amused myself today by making a little toy crossbow. I used a piece of 6mm diameter fibreglass rod for the bow part (I think it's called the "prod" on as crossbow). I have no idea where it came from (possibly an old fishing rod?). I found it amongst my junk in the shed and its flexibility and springiness is what gave me the idea. I cut a piece about 300mm long and sanded it down to give a nice taper from the middle to the ends. Made the stock and trigger mechanism from scraps I had lying around. It has a draw length of 125mm and a draw weight of 6kg (13 lb).

It fires bolts made from kebab sticks at a serious velocity, which penetrate about 2" into a block of polystyrene. I made a rough guestimate of velocity at about 50m/s. Or to put it another way - I wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end. It's a bit too effective to be a kid's toy.

Accuracy is not brilliant, but might improve if I'm a bit fussier about the flights on the arrows (they're just made from bits of paper and sticky tape) and set up some kind of sighting device on the bow. I guess it's a work in progress. Should keep me amused for a couple of days.  :D
