Zane 668

I should have added that if you got one with matching numbers than you were indeed lucky, they are always close up to 10 numbers away, it is well documented that Zanes generally dont have matching numbers

Quite possibly the first incarnation of 650s did, im sure Marnix can advise on this

It's exactly what you write Cosi, if numbers matched it was coincidence, but they were always close within say 10 numbers from eachother.

I was once told that they started with matching numbers, but due to the engines blowing up and causing a major engine damage, some of the engines were returned to the factory and exchanged with some of the production line, which caused the next bike(s) to have a mismatch on the engine number... over time this summed up (depending on which model, as they had partly the same frame numbers (with different leading letters...) for different models. F.e. the Formula's had their own numbers etc.

Not sure 100% this is not just a rumor though, but would explain it...

Interesting story.
All I know is I had two 650 Formulas and two 668 Sports.  They all had matching numbers when new.  These were numbered between 1559 and 1749.  If your story is correct it must have affected the later bikes  - which is logical.

Does anyone care?  I suspect I am the only person on this forum who rides a 668 Sport??

No there are a few of us stupid enough to own one or 3  :D

Good on you!
Although hard work, I'm sure you can feel satisfaction that they are so much less common than SFC750s or Jotas 😜.  Faster too, and more economical... 😀

Keep the rubber down bro.👍

Cheers,
Ian

Wow, this 668 stuff is spreading.  This month's Practical Sportsbikes has a 6 page feature on one being put back on the road.

Check it out for some nice pictures; January 2016 issue.

Yeah, certainly needs to be... to have cash with which to pay the workshop bills! ::)
