Hi... looking as `I do for laverda parts in Spain, I came across this add, I dont kn ow the seller, but perhaps this ad may interest someone

Truth is, the hassle of getting stuff out of Spain would be enuf to put me off.  I have a Ducati Vento and have been bitten - or come close to being bitten - too may times, sad to say.  And don't even ask Grant about his Spanish Laverda experiences ...

Plus the only bit of that lot worth having is the 6th gear ...  :-*
 
Actually you would be surprised how easy it is.
Often prices here as everywhere , are inflated due to an emotional value on a bike, our peoples perceived market value. Having big auctions around the world where bikes sell at highly inflated prices , because someone just had to have it, or they had their big man pants on that day doesnt help.
There are a lot of badly maintained bikes the world round, so I wouldn't paint only Spain with that brush. I know of several large collections of bikes where they are immaculate, and I know of several collections, and I mean large collections of 100 plus bikes, where they are barn finds, where they are bikes that are left as they stopped running. And thats just on Mallorca.
If you speak Spanish its easier, until I spoke reasonable Spanish , google translate and Linguee got me through everything.
Spains worth a try and its a treasure trove of vintage bikes and cars and all manner of other things.

They see high prices on the net and assume their junker is worth at least that.
I had to give more than one seller a reality check.

The issue regarding Laverdas in Spain is that in all my time there I only found one shop still servicing them.
The importer folded some time in the 80s so the Laverdas eventually were bodged to within an inch of their life or left to rot in the back of the garage due to a terminal fault or gummed up carbs.
I bought 10 to 15 Laverdas in Spain.
More than one still had the bad batch of main bearings. I'm not sure any were rectified there.
One even had 2 inlet cams present...

I hear you, and agree to a point, but there are still good deals to be had here, especially with some of the bikes I see. I won't buy something Im not interested in, but there are some ok bikes. And you are right, people see high prices on the net, but that happens everywhere.... look at the Laverda from a few months back, that was stupid money in NZ. I find it more with houses here that the prices are ridiculous
 
Laverda prices vary wildly by region around the world, but Spain isn't in the upper price (or quality) bracket.
Sure, there are tidy bikes and bargains to be had but Milanuncios and Segundamanos are full of chancers.

A price achieved in the UK or US will be different to a price achieved in Germany, Australia etc.
Why? No idea, just is like that. So, selling a Laverda means doing your homework and targetting the correct market.

I went on a few local classic club ride outs in Catalunya and also went to Barajas in Madrid to a classic meet.
Lovely old (WW2) BMWs as well as all the usual Spanish fare (Sanglas, Ossa, Bultaco, Lube etc)
 
I don't disagree that Spain has some very fine bike collections.  But that's not the point.  What we're talking about here is buying second-hand parts, and that at a distance.

And for that to work, there has to be a certain amount of confidence.  And I'm afraid to say, my experience has not been good.  Wrong parts, broken parts, worn to beyond use parts.  And when you inform the seller ... nada.

I'll buy 'sight unseen' from people like Jesus Lloriente Guzman at Recambiuosusado.  But thru private adverts on Lamaneta, Mil Anuncios etc?

I know this collection you are talking about in Mallorca, actually I live in the village next by, just today, I closed a deal for my second Laverda, the first one I owned, sf3 bought it to him, and now, I just bought a laverda 1000. It has been standing there the last 30 years or so, complete but in bad condition, I hope I can run it before I restore it for a few months! he still has few Laverdas left, but in worse condition, also cheaper than mine.

I have very bad experiences, with Italy, Germany, France and some other country. They are all Germans, Italians, French and others unpresentable, well no. I will continue shopping in all those places since a minority does not represent a country...and Spain is no different.
